I'm doing a road trip on the 90 back to the Northeast, and I'll be going through South Dakota in the middle of Sturgis week. I was hoping to see and camp at both Devil's Tower and the Badlands, but am now a little uncertain about it, both because of traffic/lines/no available campsites, and possible troubles with massive groups of bikers. This may just be ignorance, but I feel like I've read one article about Sturgis ever, and it was about fights and gang bosses and stuff like that. So the question: Have you been there? Are there huge traffic jams and long lines for the National Parks? Are campsites full 50-100 miles away? Is it safe during that time to camp out in the midst? What's the good and the bad of the whole scene? Peace.
