The cops will be fired and this will be blown out of proportion with huge accusations of racism while in reality it's just one dick cop that caused it.

I dunno, if it's endemic of a department, which it is in a lot of places, perhaps it should be blown out of proportion.

 

Bottom line: When you yell at cops and give them attitude, they will fuck with you and take you in, justified or not. It doesn't matter what the case is or if you are black, white, red, brown, yellow, or whatever.

Hostility is often police code for 'teaching a lesson'.

 

It's probably not.

It's not like there are that many black people in upper class Cambridge either (making an educated guess here).

Someone called the cops on the professor because they thought he was breaking in in the first place... probably some super uppity yuppie who is deeply afraid of black people.

All in all, this isolated incident is not something on which we can base any big generalized assumptions.

 

I read about this earlier, after he proved his identity and that it was his home the cop started to leave but the professor pressured the cop 3 times for him badge number and name. He follow the cop outside where he found 3 other officers at the scene and was surprisingly arrested. Now im sure the professor was pissed and probably wasn't calm when the cop showed up, but I think it's understandable to be a bit ticked when you're accused of breaking into your own home and having to prove it.

Probably a bit racist but I'm sure it had more to do with the cop being a dick than him wanting give the top black academic his "****** wake up call".

 

Ordinarily I’d agree 100% but not this time; because they did have a recent rash (with all due respect to cherea) of similar robberies in the area in which the thieves entered the homes by forcing open the front door in broad daylight

It was racial profiling. I can bet that they were looking for a black guy in connection with the robberies.

But on the same topic... I think that there's absolutely nothing wrong with racial profiling. If I use Israel as an example (and let's please not turn this thread into another Israel hating thread)... there is very strong racial profiling and it has prevented thousands upon thousands of deaths. If a guy's an Arab that looks suspicious he will be searched, and those searches have often led to discovering weapons and bombs.

Hell, I get racially profiled at airports every once in a while because of my passport... I honestly don't mind, I always joke around with the TSA folk... they are usually really nice.

I can assure you that most of the time they are just saying that to justify their practice, Israel is notorious for taking techniques out of proportion when it comes to their safety ( ie Lebanon War).

If the American aviation industry had the same profiling regulations as Israel's 9/11 would have never happened, per example.

 

i still say if a white guy was angrily beating on his door at night because he couldn't get in, then was belligerant with cops even after showing id, he'd get arrested.
