for the past several days my dog's stools have been coming out weird and have been getting stuck about half-way up his butt. Sorry, but I could NOT think of a more delicate way to put that. He's 13 and I haven't changed his diet lately. Any idea what could be causing this?
My dog gets that when he's been eating grass. But, when that's the case, the cause is pretty obvious. When we give him a cow femur for a treat, his stool texture changes.
.. feed it some wet dog food and let it have plenty of water, if its not drinking water, give it canned food thats moist.. Sounds like dog is getting elderly aswell.. .
If all else fails buy some feline hairball paste and once a week rub 1/2 an inch on your finger on his gums or the roof of his mouth. I had a dog that ate plastic dog toys and would get constipated. Hairball paste worked for him and it's mainly vasoline with a little flavoring, usually malt. Most dogs love the taste of it. And make sure he has plenty of water available at all times. Dog foods like pedigree are designed to provide nutrition with little moisture that's how they publicize smaller stools. Not always good for the animal, but humans buy into it. And some dogs like their privacy, try not to call him back before he's totally done. How do you like being rushed?
