Hi all, I have an iBook G4, going on 4 years old at, that is giving me a couple issues. First, it has been getting slower and slower loading pages. From what I;ve heard, I believe this is due to crap picked up on the web like spywar, cookies, etc. Also, I'm been having intermittent problems with my mouse not scrolling smoothly. It'll jump around the screen, and disappear for a little while if I scroll over certain toolbars. Does anybody have some tips for me? Thanks
I own an iBook G4 too. It has nothing to do with spyware, and more to do with modern web media. Specifically, Adobe Flash player is very CPU intensive and our old iBooks have trouble rendering flash media. Unfortunately, most webpages have flash media content and it is unavoidable. A lot of advertisers use flash too. Flash is very resource greddy software. It slows most computers down at least a little. Old computers like our iBooks are simply getting outdated. Eventually, we won't even be able to use flash player at all.
Hmm, balls. I was hoping that wasn't going to be the answer. Would upping the ram and dumping some files onto an external help. I currently have 1 gig of ram and 5.6gig of memory on a 60 gig harddrive. Thanks
ram = memory You have 1Gb of RAM (RAM = memory) and 5.6Gb of free space on a 60Gb hard drive. Well... I don't think it is possible for you to have exactly 1Gb of RAM unless it is a 1.33Ghz iBook. The iBook G4's have 128Mb, 256Mb, and 512Mb RAM built in (on board) and only a single empty slot for additional RAM. Also, the maximum size RAM stick the iBook G4 memory expansion can hold is 1Gb. I have a 512Mb stick with the on-board 256Mb, making 768Mb RAM. It is enough to do what I need with it. Can you tell me what the processor speed is on your iBook? This will give me an idea what your maximum RAM capacity is. Also, removing things from your hard drive will likely not speed it up. Considering how little free space you have, it might be a good idea to remove things just in case. btw, what web browser are you using?
