    hahahaha.

i complain about my life with such a dry sense of humor, though. for example, my paranoia.

i went up to take a nap with joey. we had the tv on some program, and i dozed off. when i awoke, it was to a show about the BTK killer. horrible details about how he did all his stuff eventually murdering women in their beds. i wasn't gonna go back to sleep, so i went downstairs to the kitchen to get some water.

when i got down there, i notice the back door is unlocked, there's a pair of rubber gloves on the floor by the door that my daughters had been playing with AND a couple long jump ropes. knife conveniently placed upon the counter. all i could think to myself, as i rolled my eyes and checked the basement was "gawd, he'd have thought i was the COOLEST VICTIM EVER!!"

I find it amazing how many people here have such a problem with unschooling. How long do we want to go on fucking up our kids? Unschooling is about freedom, about letting each other live, about minding one's own business instead of messing up other people's lives - whether they're kids or adults.
I think it's time we move on in such a direction.

Way to stick up for government-mandated social conditioning of children! They've got to be shaped and shorn into square pegs for square holes or round pegs for round holes. Molded, rough-edges removed, made fit for society!

Who has the right to determine what an average life should be?

    Whose average life?

What could the phrase "average life" actually mean?

I work with a Captain who never went to school. Never got home-schooled, either. His parents just didn't teach him anything. All they did is provide him access to books to learn whatever he wanted. He decided at some point that he wanted to go to college, so he studied for his GED and went. Got his degree, joined the Army. He's a very smart guy. Pretty unusual, but a good guy and very capable.

School really isn't necessary. Kids want to learn. Unless you make the experience really awful for them, they'll do it naturally.

im not going to read all the replys so this idea might have already been brought up, but if not, here it is.

Kids arent going to go out there and teach themselves how to diagram sentences with subjects and predicates. they wont go teach themselves quadratic equations and formal form forms. they wont force themselves to team up with the goth kid and the poor kid and the jock to do a project. someone needs to be there to do that.

thats my idea on the subject without reading this thread for an hour.

I have the right to do that...as well as you do and everyone else does.

it means exactly that - average life. probably rightly die of cancer or get Parkinson's or some other disease adn thats that
