    What do you believe in?

Feminism has been represented many different ways by the media, society, and by feminists themselves. What's your approach? What bugs you about the current state of things, and what have been the best successes of the past? Should there be separations? Should biological differences have credence? And so on...

I ask because I think of myself as a feminist as well, male though I be. A lot of people's definitions are so different from mine that I just can't believe that they've actually thought very much about it, and some I think go too far. I once saw a middle-aged woman at a peace rally with the horn who pointed to her headscarf and shouted "This is was a radical feminist looks like!" a couple times. In reference to solidarity with those oppressed in other countries. I was a little amused by the logic, but I suppose it does make some kind of sense.

    Whaddaya think?

I believe in equal rights and equal responsibility.
I believe I can do what a man can and a man can do what i can.
I believe if I can wear makeup so can he.
I believe if I can wear pants he can wear skirts.
I believe if I start a fight with a man and throw the first punch he has every right to fight back because I started it.

For me its about bringing the world back into harmony by balancing the male and female energies in our society, returning to life similar to it was in 4000 BC, when there mostly were matriarchal egalitarian communities. I think this is just a more natural way of living, because as women we are creators and nourishers of life, in tune with the divine feminine basic creative force in the universe. I believe in cultivating that energy and awareness in ones self and most of all just being true to yourself, and not be so caught up in labels no matter what gender may you identify as, because really it changes all the time, we are fluid beings, living in the now

thanks. I think if we want to play with the big boys (literally) we need to accept the benefits AND the hardships. It seems a lot of feminists these days just want to have their way and be spoiled without any responsibility.

actually i have never really understood feminism. in the time we live in women have so many rights, nothing is bad for us. about exploiting the woman flesh in erotica and porn and naked photossesions and shit...you know the women who does thay do it because they want to do it,except for the occasion when she is a vicitm of somebody elses desires.
i really just don`t get it, by this i don`t mean to offend anyone!
pls don`t missunderstand me, i respect everyones point of view, morlas and personal deccisions...i just don`t get the whole femism thing.
maybe i`m just not well informed.

This is a really interesting PBS documentary about parts of the porn industry. Careful when you're watching, though, their warning ain't lyin'. I think there are lots of ways in which porn exacerbates societal and personal problems. You can get a lot of money to be in porn. The money is to make you do things you don't want to do, and wouldn't otherwise do (generally). While it's technically a choice, the industry preys on people that really don't have options. I think the negative effect of the end product has been well-discussed many different ways.
