Does the bible claim the earth is flat?

Does the bible claim the Earth does not rotate around the Sun, nor is there tectonic plate movement under it's crust?

Wow, that is pretty interesting. I'm surprised I've never heard this mentioned before. I suppose it could all be interpreted differently, the bible always is, but those are quite a few clear references. Of course that does pose a bit of a threat to the "all-knowing" ideals behind the bible's creation. Humanity thought the world to be flat at that time, but the bible should certainly know better, right?

 

Who fuckin cares. Most of the things in the bible are either made up, fabricated, and/or metaphorical.

 

It always struck me as strange how things that are currently taken as metaphorical were at one time taken quite literal by bible historians.

If this book is indeed divine why would the events throughout it need to be metaphorical?

It just always sounded like a way to make the holy bible to sound a little less ridicules.

It says women are inferior to men. That homosexuality should be punished, and is not natural. (If god made us in his image, then he made some of us homosexual, and therefore he is homosexual if a=b and b=c then a=c)

We have a fossil record that has given us animals never mentioned in the bible.

The bible is full of cruelty, injustice, and prejudice. People have been murdered, tortured, and entire groups of people have been put to death for not believing in it. So FUCK the bible.

Did you also remember that entire groups of people were killed, tortured, and put to death for entertainment because of their belief in it?
Think of the Romans. Yes there are imperfections to it, among other things, and just because someone who called themselves the Pope, or Christian and did something evil, you cant use that to say F*&k the bible and christianity.

This interests me why you would think this. What animals do you refer to? If you mean dinosaurs, they are mentioned in the Bible (Job 40:15–24, Job 41, Psalm 104: 25, 26, Isaiah 21:7) Of course you won't find the word "Dinosaur" as that word was not coined until 1841, ironically by a creationist. Tanniyn (or dragon), behemoth (generally thought to refer to brachiosaurus) and Leviathan (or nowadays Kronosaurus) were the terms of the time. Unless there were any other animals to whom you refer?

Look at this thread, and read what's in it. We are all Christians and still the majority of the posts point to the evils of the Catholic Church. Most of the crimes talked about here were comitted by the Roman Catholic Church. Any real Christian will not persecute another for not believing.
