You're generalizaing WAY to fucking much. You're insulting a whole group of people. Have a look at this map. You realize half the fucking country voted for bush? Yeah some of your oh so wonderful "city folk" did too. And here's the link to the page for it: http://www.princeton.edu/~rvdb/JAVA/election2004/ See all that purple? Yeah, even in the south! OMG! The WHOLE fucking country was divided! Gasp! Yeah, there are a lot of bible thumpers in the south. Yeah there are bad schools and ignorant people. But you know what? Those things are everywhere else too. I'm getting sick and damn tired of all the south bashing on this board. Goddammit give it a fucking rest for fucks sake! I'm from South Carolina and go to school in Florida (with a whole hell of a lot of people from the north, new england, out west, other countries...every damn where). Everyone I know from back home is well aware of the world around them and are damn sure they were making an informed decision when they voted...regardless of who it was for. And I've met plenty of well informed AS WELL AS ignorant people from places other than the south. So get the fuck over yourselves already, all you who feel the need to bash us. I apologize for all that for anyone who found it offensive in any way (well, except for those it was intended for...those NARROW-MINDED FUCKS). I'm usually not this bitchy. But I keep hearing this shit, I keep seeing it, and it's fucking bullshit that I just couldn't bit my tongue about anymore. And that is that :/
No no no no no! This was not my intention when I started this post! All I wanted to point out was the fact that the 3 states that lost the most people in the WTC strike voted Kerry, and that National Security was a large part of the Bush campaign. Mr. Seamonster pointed out early on that he has some strong opinions against folks that live in the South & Midwest who's majorities re-elected Bush. this is not a bad thing because everyone is entitled to their opinion even if you don't agree with it. I personally don't agree with Mr. Seamonster's ideas, but I'd rather everyone gather facts and bring them here along with personal ideas on how to correct things that you believe are wrong or to ->lightly<- discuss how issues can be massaged to accommodate everyone involved. We're all in this together, so I'm figuring instead of ramming spikes into the ideas of others, just listen & put yourself in everyone else's shoes before you adrenaline out a response.... Fighting is a last resort amongst the civil.
And Co0kiez, you're absolutely right about the generalization...I lived in FL & and I've got friends in SC, but I live in NJ now...everywhere I go up & down the East coast the people have the same ideas, just different(and yeah I'm getting cliche here) nature or nurture...people seem to base their political views according to how they were brought up, which always seems to include religion even though we're supposed to live in a country with separation of Church & State. The population of the South & the Midwest states are no doubt more religious then the -- northeast, "rustbelt" & the left coast...but thats the way it is...I'm not sure why the previous poster asked, "when did democracy mean majority rules?"...it always has, and I don't like the results so I'm going to explain to everyone I meet everyday that the Republican party is not the right choice... But I'll be calm & cool when I do it and have a head full of facts to rebut their ridiculous claims...
I'm not in it for a fight. I was venting because I'm sick of actually being discriminated against. What kinds of facts could I possibly present to him anyway? Except for the fact that I'm a southerner and I, as well as most everyone I know, are nothing like his stereotype. I keep seeing him spout it over and over and I got sick of it. I did apologize because I know my post had nothing to do with the original one. I just happened to not be able to sit back and take it anymore. It's not just him either. Others on here, as well as people "in real life" I've heard these things from. They act elitist. I'm sorry, but this is something I've had to deal with my whole life just because I'm a southerner. I've always travelled a lot, and had to hear it time and time again. But this election has just brought out all the idiotic stereotypes in full force. Again, I'm sorry, but I just couldn't take it. And I agree, fighting is the last resort of the civil. I don't fight. I argue, but I don't fight. I may argue quite passionately at times too lol, obviously. I have no facts to back anything up up there (well, except for that nifty map that I found recently, just to show that whole country is divided in half, not just between north/south, or other such mess), just my own experience. I think that's enough in this case.
just because you come from a certain area does not mean you have to act the way the majority does... and I am not generalizing way to much, you know its got some truth to it....its the most non-progressive part of the country. Its also the focal point of the fundamentalist Christian movement. I make no apologies for pointing out the obvious....of course there are exceptions. If you can't take it, put me on ignore.
This post alone makes you sound like an ignorant schmuck. You think you're better then most Americans? Why, do you have a magic cock or something? You're not better then anyone because of that statement alone. Grandson of a WW2 hero? Who the fuck cares? You're grandfather was the hero, you're just riding his coattails by mentioning that. Born in an Air Force hospital during the Vietnam war? Once again, who the fuck cares? You're once again riding the coattails of either your mother or father that were in the military. Nazi Germany? What in the hell does that have to do with the Bush Administration and which states voted for him? I don't agree with the administration's methods, and there have been a whole lot of deaths because of it, but are you trying to compare their fuck ups with the genocide that occured in Germany? Better check your ass into the local hospital for a head-ectomy...
I am an arrogant schmuck Got you all fired up didn't I? The comparison to Germany was to show that the majority supporting something isn't always good, thats all.... Anyway, i hope I can continue to enrage you. And yes, I definitely think I am smarter than the average American, I really hope you think you are too.
Ive almost been to every state in the US, and I have one thing to say. Every state has their fuck-ups. Example: I go to NYC, and 20% of the people I bump into don't speak a f***'n word of english. Some moron trys to pick-pocket me and then asks me if he can borrow a dollar after I catch him. I go to south carolina, Some Crackhead asks me for a dollar, then tries to steal my car. (dont go to Hot-Spot Gas stations near the ghetto) No matter where you go, its a given that you are gonna see people that don't do the most intellegent things. Education levels are based on SAT/ACT scores. Different states take the SAT's in different grades. Most cases the people who earned the highest education score for their states arn't even old enough to vote. I took my SAT's when I was 15,16, and 17 In SC. http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2004/pages/results/states/US/P/00/epolls.0.html Thats the CNN poll for the education levels for the people who voted. As you can see, the educated were clearly split both ways.
I've not been keeping up to date with this thread, so I don't know what you're saying this in reference to.... but I agree with you.
Diversity is great, it was just a bad expierience for me. I was saying that though, just because 20% of the people who bumped into me didn't speak english, I still didn't say all people in NY don't speak english. I was just giving an example of a common generalization.
I totally agree with you here. I live in a rural area, and I am not stupid nor did I vote for Bush. Maybe some people live in rural areas because they don't wish to spend much time around other people. It doesn't make them stupid back woods cousin fucking morons. No one will take you seriously when you talk like that. Thank you for making these points!
