I was out of town last weekend for a wedding. I needed shoes for the wedding itself, but apart from that, spent my time barefoot. I didn't even take shoes with me, so barefoot was compulsory until I bought some. Parking the car I saw a shoe shop with a sale on, so I cut straight across the wet grass to get there. That soon turned to mud, and trying to stay upright on my crutches was difficult and involved plenty of digging bare toes into squishy mud for grip. Wonderful! Imaging the look on the faces of the girls in the shop when I hobble in, one foot covered in mud and grass, and the other just with a bit of dirt from the pavement on the sole as I can put just a little weight on it. I have never had so many people looking at my bare feet!
Addressing the title of this post rather than your specific event, the most fun in a shoe shop for me is trying new shoes on barefoot (when I can). Most department stores insist on those boxed "footies," but the occasional independent store is OK with it, particularly those casual shoes that are going to be worn sockless anyway. Neat feeling! (Hey, I wash!)
