Not modern day at all.
Promiscuity and conservatism alternate in cycles.
We just tend to think of the past as being more wholesome from the bullshit our parents and Disney gives us.
Look back to French Romanticism, or more recently, the Free Love movement.
Right now we are more promiscuous, eventually chaste will fall back into fashion.

I wish to clarify that I value a promiscuous woman infinitely more than a prude. That may explain my perspective that prudes are all over the place, and truly promiscuous women are hard to find.

 

Personally, for me, I find a huge difference in promiscuous and slutty. I love promiscuity, hate slutty.
I would define slutty as promiscuity with motive (I can be popular if I suck all my peers' cocks) or without regard.
