This keeps showing up on a blue crash screen should I worry?...is it removable?..I searched a bit and it seems like theres no clear answer I use vista basic
http://www.threatexpert.com/files/win32k.exe.html http://www.file.net/process/win32k.exe.html Which Im sure you have read by now. My suggestion. Roll back to last known stable profile. or Safe mode - > locate file - > zap it - > reboot - > cross your fingers. oh you might want to save a copy of the file before you zap it, just in case p.s. win32 files should should be in the system folder. and blue screen eh ? didnt know they still had that. its been awhile since i used windows.
Everything I find comes back to either prog called HideItX or a page relating to it being able to be corrupted.
and one last thing..hmm make that two things A: www.bleepingcomputer.com and B: im too lazt to click edit thisevening.
Summary: 2 users think win32k.exe is essential for Windows or an installed application. 4 users suspect danger. 2 users think win32k.exe is dangerous and recommend to remove it.. this is what has me wondering Im so tired of this computer crashing that I think it has one chance left before I drive over it and buy a new one and im using superslow IE because my firefox seems fubared too
Some malware camouflage themselves as win32k.exe, particularly if they are located in c:\windows or c:\windows\system32 folder.
missing Dll files causing system errors.. In a nut shell, a dynamic link library (DLL) is a collection of small programs, which can be called upon when needed by the executable program (EXE) that is running. The DLL lets the executable communicate with a specific device such as a printer or may contain source code to do particular functions. An example would be if the program (exe) needs to get the free space of your hard drive. It can call the DLL file that contains the function with parameters and a call function. The DLL will then tell the executable the free space. This allows the executable to be smaller in size and not have to write the function that has already exists.
oh nice...my post worked..I couldnt tell right away because the @#@@ computer quit again...I dont know shit about these things...thanks for helping but thats like chinese to me...Im gonna get a buddy to help (after I delete some pics and "stuff") ...or run it over and replace it...its driving me nuts
also I been seeing thT MESSAGE for months now...but just recently figured out the words because the screen gets all squished when it happens
today it took 3 reboots to be able to access internet :d....all memory issue warnings..I took pics of the messages but am afraid the comp wont be working long enough to resize and upload :d
Save what you can/want to CD/DVD. Wipe and reinstall AV check the contents of the CD/DVD before putting it back on the HD.
Thats my next attempt...I'd like to save everything important and then try to put it back to the way it was the day I bought it....This was a like new refurb from Staples...I didnt get any discs with it and the window vista basic was already installed...Im grabbing at straws though..computer stuff confuses me...how do I wipe and re-install without discs?...I do have two recovery discs I made when it was new...but I dont know what to do with them. I had a new error show up today
You got a registery problem. Which fits in with the win32k issue nicely. The recover disk were made with the Vista recovery thingy ? If you made the disks with the Vista tools..they should be bootable.... To boot from Disk Drive before Hard Drive you will need to change your BIOS settings. On a Compaq press F10 right after you turn the computer on just press the key a few times to make sure it notices it....its not an instant thing so dont worry. (if that dont work try 'esc' or 'del' but turn the comp off and on again.) BIOS is an interesting thing....they can be different from comp to comp...and they get updated often, but we'll go thru that later. Dont be scared to key around (no mouse function here ) the bios...you cant exit without it asking you if you want to save what you did ( usually ha. sorry. ). You will find the boot order for your hardware in there somewhere....just swap your harddrive for the cd/dvd drive in the order. I dont suggest you change anything else in the BIOS...even if it seems trivial, no point in making new possibilites for problems untill you got this one sorted out. Remember if you think you have made a mistake/wrong choice with the BIOS while in the BIOS just leave WITHOUT saving. DO NOT restore to default.
I was trying to save as much pics and programs that I didnt want to lose.. because I was preparing for a windows reinstall attempt....and I could barely copy a gig of stuff before getting a blue screen with "memory management" listed as the problem...over and over...probably about twenty times... so I googled that and saw a post where a guy had the same thing and it was a bad ram stick...I had two 1gig rams...so I removed one and then I would get the same error immediately as windows started... so I switched it with the other one and Ive been able to surf for hours tonight without any problem whatsoever....is it possible for the one stick to cause all the other weird errors...or should I still try a wipe and clean? I collected a bunch of screenshots and actual digital pics of the errors for fun...some where Irql not equal or less memory management congratulations windows vista activation was sucessful microsoft software licensing service has stopped working your computer has a memory problem Host process for windows has stopped working and was closed there were more these are just the ones I remember
Yes. hardwear cause all sorts of problems. A faulty fan -> overheat, will make things look like the worlds going to end. Vista needs 1.5gig RAM to be 'stable' ...droping one of the sticks wont cause a problem but most people do better with 2gig of RAM, 1gig is the min level. now faulty RAM is faulty ram...if you are not having problems with that stick out, great. but Id still be getting as much of your critical stuff off the comp in prep for a total wipe and reinstall in the future. Note: alot of apps people install place/modify parts of the windows system registry, so copying the contents of the programs folder sometimes wont get the prog to run when you reload it ( the registry chages are missing ). Its best to always keep a copy of the installation exe for this reason. Use this problem you had/have to get your off drive backup policy in order. Well thats what I suggest.
Turn off system restore. Boot into safe mode. Remove the file. Scan the registry. Virus scan. Reboot. Turn system restore back on.
should I still do that if I have no problems now that I removed the bad ram stick? not one hiccup since yesterday
ubuntu.com ^download iso image, burn the iso image, install, and never have malware problems again. Message me for any support you need during migration, I'm glad to help Lol, also, better performance with less RAM, you get a free CD to reinstall if you mess it up, an actual decent recovery environment, basically a better system. (Yes, I'm a zealot sometimes XD)
