So then, why boycott it? If there's a chance for some change with voting, why be against that?

congratulations jmt, looks like your campaign has been a smashing success. voter turnout is only 54% in elections with both congressional and presidential candidates. all the other years the voter turnout is down to about 40%.

please tell us all how you did it.

To boycott - not to boycott....
Let's take a vote and decide.

I know, lame, but I had to do it.

In the "I know people most likely do not care but I shall speak up anyway" category...

Try voting on a local level. You do a lot more good, and your vote makes a more significant impact. While the news media might pay more attention to the national government, your local officials are making a lot of choices that could be effecting you a lot more. So if you want to change the nation, start with changing your town. This may mean that you have to go through the horror of paying attention to local politics and, yes, even voting, but maybe you'll find the effort worth it.

True I do believe that local vote is the last real voting system we have.

What if everybody in the united states boycotted voting?
Theyd start bribing people millions of dollars to vote..
I second the notion of Boycotting the vote, lots of free cash!!

In A time of slipping away democratic rights, I believe freely giving away one of last remaining civil liberties away, no matter how pointless it may seem, to be a very very bad idea.

I agree it's time to move forward with democracy but we have to expand that very thing. Silence *is* ignorance... We need to learn to shout louder.

    Peace

Yea but voting really does nothing. You put your opinion in a box and then other people make the decision of who runs your life.

Shout louder, and refusing to put your opinion in their box does just that as they seemingly beg you to do it.

Voting gives the appearence of a democratic goverment system, even though voting, like you say, does not give any power to the people. The point i'm making, not voting would make no difference... the problems are fair greater then just the lack of difference the public can make on their own goverement via the vote... but is more the fact that the only resemblance to a democracy we have is a flawed voting system...full stop.

There are things that we can do, but it can't be some passive opinion...

Without voting nothing would ever change for the better, its the only real tool for change we have.Ask the millions of medical marajuana users in the dozen or so states that legalized it where they would be if no one voted to pass pro legalizing laws.Whatever you do VOTE if you dont vote then you cant complain.

lol, I live in canada, we have three major parties

NDP- eco friendly people friendly all around good people (but they want higher taxes)

Liberal-they do nothing, give us what we bug them for(eventually), taxes? they think everything is fine!

conservative-they hate everyone/everything/the enviroment, and love america! they want like no taxes...how can this be possible? stupid...we NEED higher taxes..

not voting, honestly is kind of stupid, I hope this thread was started out of farce...

a few years ago the conservatives were gaining power, we all wanted the ndp to win, and the conservatives to lose. the conservatives won because everyone tried to vote anyone else just to get them outta here...

they lowered taxes...and now they want us to have american style healthcare (I'm pretty sure that means no healthcare)

when that "north american union" comes into place...I'm moving...fuck...to china maybe?

    naw...I'll just be a pirate
