I think one of the most basic motivating factors is that we would not end up a mere cliche. As a musician, I'm constantly fighting against the tendency to lean on musical cliches in my kit bag.

Being a cliche is a fact of life my friend. We all have our labels and therefore are cliches.

But I've been trying to void my labels. I don't like the feeling that I'm a walking advertisement for some social stereotype.

*nods* No matter what, no matter who you are, someone is always going to label you or stereotype you...so instead of running from the inevitable, why not embrace it?

I don't like being identified, committed beyond my own sense of identity, which hasn't been fully developed, in my opinion.

I think it comes from my personality type, which according to the Myers-Briggs test falls on the side of a "perceptive", rather than a "judging" type. Perceptives tend to like to leave the door open for change, while judgers like to come to a decisive conclusion. It's not suggested that your personality type is your prison, and that you can't change it to lean more to the other type, in fact it is probably a good thing to have balance. In my own case, it would help if I were more decisive, but I like to assess things for the sake of more accuracy and making better decisions, rather than to rush into action too early. Once I make my mind up about something, once I engineer all of the variables out to the nth degree, I act quickly, and decisively, but not before.

Fortunately I have this freedom. There were times when I did not, and I was pressed into action. For those situations I did have to lean on my previous experience, and most of the time it worked. But in a new situation, due to my drive for excellence in execution, what you might call a "perfectionist" tendency, I am meticulously slow, and study and re-study all the parameters before acting. In this way, I avoid the costly and time-consuming mistakes.

    Eh,,

But you've just defined your own cliche.

True. That's why, for the sake of shits and giggles, I also like to break loose every so often, abandoning the supposed parameters of my "personality". I do this through a variety of methods, including, but not exclusive to, recreational drug use, free-running, dance, etc..

It's just a matter of switching from left-brain to right-brain.

Got to kick out the jams, as they say. (More cliche,,haha)

I like the idea of freedom, in other words. Free to follow my own chosen speed.

Bob Dylan's song "Mr.Tambourine Man" is kind of an anthem to me, all through the years.

When William Wallace cried "Freedommmm!!" at the end of "Braveheart",,it struck a chord in my being (another cliche).

I guess cliches are unavoidable, but I wouldn't want to be one.

Well I just joined the other day and I've already been called a "noob", "whore", "trash", just because I have a few radical beliefs. I can tell you guys are really welcoming to newbies. You really know how to make a girl feel at home.

respect ? i cannot respect any of the choices, nor the noob nor the 4832424 post man. respect is a very strong and meaningful word for me and i give it only to people i know well and i give it for certain reasons. i can sympathise to a forumer, have certain notions about them but they can always come out to be false. never a real communication, never a real connection so, this seems pretty impossible.
of course i sympathise people i have written with more than somebody i have never seen around here.

I like some of the 'nOObs' just because they're just as witty and funny as the senior posters.
It's all a matter of how they come around here acting. nOObs expect hippies here and most of them are surprised at the amount of....nonhippieness around here, I think.

This thread is so gay. I am overwhelmed by its absolute gayness, which goes beyond anything I have ever seen before.
