And thus we come full circle. A union divided once again.

I found this image on another message board and find it very telling about how far we've come.

Yea, we've all seen it many times, except untill the 60's, it was Democrats in the south and mid-west and Republicans in the North and west-coast.

i'd call it "still divided." but not so heavily as pessimists would like to think.

Why do people always have to make it a matter of race?

So I suppose you're saying that everyone who lives in a red state is racist and supports slavery?

    Please!

It's ridiculous insinuations like this that divide the country even more.

Yes, that's exactly what I said. Um huh yes sir!

I was remarking on the fact that the US is once again divided along the same lines it was prior to the civil war. If I'm suggesting anything it is that relations between regions may not be stable forever.

Oh, and that everyone who lives in a red state, such as myself, is racist and supports slavery.

i dont think anyone was implying that. what I personally got from those two maps is just that is shows the group mentality of certain states and which are more progressive then others on various (seemingly) unrelated issues.

Oh, ok... Sorry, my bad. I guess I glanced at it too quickly.

I see what you're saying now.

I HATE the red states vs. blue states map...while its representative of the elecoral votes, it's not representative of the popular votes...seen any maps showing the whoel country, with the states shaded the appropriate colors?...hmm if we blend them we woul dhave a big freaking puprle blob...Barney has won again dammit!

I couldn't agree more. Some sources I've checked , some reliable and some not, have even talked about secceeding. Guess we're about due for a civil war.

If states wanted to secede, I doubt there would be a civil war. In this day and age, Americans are only interested in bombing brown people. They simply do not have the stomach to take up arms against their own countrymen. Also, most Americans have a "live and let live mentality" (unless you're gay), so if a few states wanted to secede I don't think the others would have a big problem with it.

See! yeah I prefer that map over the big Red/blue one. I just feel like, even though there's a lot of red/violet, and actually still a lot of red over in the middle, it still shows how almost evenly divided the WHOLE country was over this election. I mean, look at South Carolina for one! It's a whole lot more purple than I actually imagined it'd be. Even though the majority voted for Bush, this still gives me more hope than that freakin' red and blue map :p
