problem is.. i don't really have anywhere to park it and live. so i might have to be driving from place to place nightly.

i'm assuming this might be cheaper than killing myself on 600 a month rent for a tiny bedroom, shared bathroom, shared kitchen and living with people i don't really know... and then not having any money for other bills or even food.

i skimmed through this section, but didn't find too much on this subject. (a few threads i plan to read through though)

any advice for a single woman looking to do this??

Sell you a nice Airstream. Its a pull behind, but nice. It's a 28 footer, full kitchen with fridge, oven/range, lots of storage, full bath with a tub, porta pot, to sofas that make into comfy full-size beds and a double closet. I hate to give it up but I have no place to keep it right now.

Get a stationwagon, a futon mattress and a cooler. A lot cheaper than an RV and much better gas mileage.

I plan on doing the same thing this December. You may wanna google LTVA or Long term visitor areas the are very cheap. Also you can park on Blm land for 14 days from the moment a forest pig catches you :). Walmart always welcomes the overnight camper just dont set up camp there. Not sure if you have a job but Nevada and Arizona are much more accomadating for the rv dweller. Good luck keep us posted

converted school buses are cheap and much more durable than a stick and staple rv.
i converted a short bus on my own and lived out of it for most of the summer, it kicks ass.
if i can do it, you can too :)
i have a thread somewhere if you want to see it.

i want something big enough that i can travel comfortably with my 3 kids and be able to spend a few days somewhere, plus 11 months out of the year, i would just like to park it somewhere and live in it. i don't want to go anywhere far from where i'm at now... and i legally can't go anywhere, anyways, for 3 years or so..

the information you all are providing is great for others thinking of traveling around.. i'm not. i'm gonna stay put for the most part.

just curious about parking laws and living in vehicle laws.. looks like it differs from state to state and county to county.. i'll have to do a little research. maybe even place an ad on CL looking for a place to park and live in an RV..

i'll tell you why i prefer an RV at this moment... i'll need something i can live in immediately if i do this. i can't afford a rented room (or a storage locker) and a vehicle. i'd love to convert a bus, but i don't think i have the energy or know-how to do so right now. i'll need something big enough for my things. i only have one room of stuff.. and could even donate some things so i'll have less.

Check your state park system. I can't speak for California, and I know they're in dire financial straits, but in MD and DE there are people with RVs who stay year round in exchange for keeping the bathouses clean and doing security patrols and stuff like that. And if CA DOESN'T have a program like that, latch onto your state Rep and START one.

Here's an RV parks site. http://www.1000trails.com/ You can buy a membership from someone for like $1000 and then have free access to the sites for life. You can only stay 2 weeks at a time though. 21 sites in California.
