It wouldn't surprise me to see Constable Benoit of the Cypress Hills Pig Patrol sticking his fingers in a dog's ass. With him it would probably be true romance. Fortunately I was able to wash my driver's licence after he handled it.
You should've had the dog on the leash if you knew that was the rule. While it may not be a good one in a park that's mostly wilderness, the practicality of it is the state/county/province, whatever doesn't want to deal with the huge lawsuit that might happen if someone's dog ran off and bit the crap out of someone.
it seems to me a courteous warning to you would have sufficed.maybe levee a fine on you on the second offense for want of a better word.but i think that officers behavior is evident in many walks of life.careing about the paycheck and forgetting to do a good job instead of yielding power.if i had been the officer i would have shown some interest in the dog and make it an amiable exchange of words .trying to keep it a friendlier world and still giving a friendly reminder of the leash law if there is one.
If a dog bites someone or another dog, that would appear to be the owner's liability, not the park's. The only rationale I can think of for the leash law is that there are cougars in the park, and conceivably a cougar attack on a dog could lead to the cougar attacking its owner.
people probably want dogs on leashes 1. so they don't shit everywhere 2. so they don't get into things and destroy everything 3. so they don't knock over kids, elderly 4. so they don't bother people 5. so they don't run into traffic I agree with leash laws.
i prefer the spirit of the law over the letter of the law.things can be resolved by other means but i agree it is becomeing more difficult as people like the idea of suing each other.and i suppose it was a way to try to make money issueing tickets.but i think it's better business by a county or any entity to have people return to the area because of a more welcoming experience.
i think they have those leash laws because for as long as people have had pets, the owners werent beeing responsable. a few incidents by owners who arnt able to control their pets, (im assuming your dog listens to you) let their dogs do what ever they want. but if your responsible and walk your dog into the woods too poo instead of letting him shit on the 5 year old who fell off her bike, you shouldnt be required to use a leash. but thats just my opinion.
You didn't bother to read the details. I was in the backcountry. Defecation is natural there. Points 2 through 5 do not apply except that there was a shit-for-brains park interpreter 400 meters from trailhead who was bothered and who had a cell phone. I should have thrown her cell phone well into the bush before going on my way, but hindsight is 20-20. People like you are responsible for this police state. *** Postscript. I did 13 hours community service for the chess club, managing the giant chess set downtown. The pig police didn't receive a cent from me.
