It's so stupid! Everyone knows violent games don't make violent people. Ban that wrestling shit, more people have been injured/killed from watching that crap than playing games.

oh i believe it. my 10 yr old cousin plays those stupid war shooting games and hes a nut ball. he cant go a day without playing it and we tried telling my aunt but shes like i dont think its wrong! nicky turned out fine!

but she doesnt realize that our day in the game world was silly...they didnt have all the graphics like kids do today. its sad. If i ever have a son. I wouldnt dare let him play those kinds of games

Another state tried to ban violent games from all arcades in the state some years ago

    It failed

I do not think this one will

so what? look at the graphics they had during the first part of the 20th century:

but they still managed to exploit, abuse, massacre, and otherwise harm people in a way far more intense than what the common asshole on the street does.

violent video games don't make you violent, and neither does media portraying violence. i've enjoyed plenty of both without ever committing an act of real violence.

on the other hand, violent media is really attractive to violent people.

    correlation does not necessitate causation

there's not even a correlation, teen violence has gone down, violent video games have gone up.

A correlation between violent teens being attracted to violent games was the point I think?

Like flies to the poop it is only natural that people with a violent disposition are naturally drawn to violent subject material

tryoull story: there is a direct link between ice cream sales and homicides during any 24 hour period in new york city.

the reason is that new york is very densely populated.

ice cream sales skyrocket when the weather is nice and people go outside to enjoy it.

so do the incidents wherein people run into others they don't like, get in fights, whatever. it doesnt matter how it starts, but murders are far more common when the populace is out walking around and interacting with each other.

does this mean we should ban ice cream? does it mean we should make people stay inside if it's warm, with clear skies?

They should be held responsible, especially the ARMY that has helped to develop some of these games so that when kids turn 18 they're ready to fight in some bullshit war.

Not true. Studies have shown otherwise.

this is a popular article and only references summaries of actual studies, and data needs interpretation. there is no reason to assume this popular article has correctly interpreted the data, or even that the researchers themselves correctly interpreted them.

they don't seem to consider predisposition to violence, and don't seem to consider the fact that violent people generally do become increasingly unpleasant over time as a result of their personality

i think it's a difficult thing to discuss intelligently because it is easy to demonstrate that there is a link between violent people enjoying violent video games, but very difficult to demonstrate any kind of generation of violent behavior as a result of playing violent games.

loud noises are not violent, they are annoying. a person being more likely to try to be more annoying than otherwise as a result of your variety of entertainment is different than beating someone to death with a bat. further, this confuses me because while i'm unfamiliar with wolfenstein 3-D, i've played myst as well as the second game in the myst series - and there are no opponents
