Hey so im considering giving New York a look see... My buddy said he went on Craigslist and found a 2 bedroom apt in Manhattan, but when I looked they were all extremely exspensive. I looked in Rochester tho and found a bunch of 2 bedrooms for like 500-600 a month. Whats up with that? Shit isnt even that cheap where I am... Im originally from the midwest, raised in cornfields so what the fuck do I know about the city? Any good advice of cheap places to live, jobs, chill spots etc. would be very appreciated..
Rochester, like most cities in New York State outside of NYC, is kind of a degrading city. I used to live near the Buffalo area. Elmwood Ave in Buffalo is pretty neat. Ithaca is also a very cool town. It's not nearly as big as Buffalo or Rochester but it's a fairly environmentally conscious and progressive city.

The whole New York City metropolitan area has a very high cost of living. I don't recommend moving here.
ya not to Mention NYC is whack. Why would you move somewhere where it takes 2 hours to find a place where no one is looking at you. Call me old fashion but I like trees
I live out on LI, and have family and friends living in queens. Avoid it here (downstate atleast), WAY to expensive. If you are gonna move to the tristate, see basement apts out on LI or up in westchester. LI is pretty built up as well (much more then it used to be =[ ), but it is still very wooded in spots. Queens, well, is pretty expensive also (surprisingly), and as state before, EVERYTHING across the board is more expensive here. Everything from Gas to cloths to food in the supermarket (no superwalmarts downstate.... yet).
its expensive for a reason. its the financial capital of the world. its a cultural melting pot, and everything under the sun is going down here. tons of music, shops, foods, politics, schools, activists. whatever ur into ull find it here. so u get what u pay for. DC, philly, and maryland is about 1hour away. its a nice place to live for awhile. id say go for it. maybe visit first and scope out if u can handle the amount of people ull have to look at it one day. LI is right here too, so u can take a train out east to se our beaches if u want. the hamptons is way out east aswell. and theres wineries if u like that too. most LI/NYers dont take advantage of where they live. we too busy working and complaining. y
^^^ Well put. NYC is where my family is from and I still think it's the most incredible city in the world (that I've seen). Never met friendlier people anywhere.
