They are expecting a tornado to land in or around my neighborhood within 20 minutes. I hate this shit.
Tornado warnings are nothing. You're fine unless you live in a trailer park that happens to be in the middle of the tornado. For all we know you might live in a trailer park. But then... the tornado taking you out won't really bother anybody. You might get 5 minutes on the local news.
You talk so much shit. Yeah, if it's an F1 tornado, you probably don't have much to worry about. Any stronger than that, you need to take shelter. But you don't know how strong it is until AFTER it hits, so there is no way of telling how strong a tornado will be before it hits.
Well, taking shelter is obvious. I don't know what anyone would be doing outside otherwise? Enjoying the late night thunderstorm, shinning flashlights at the funnel clouds, or try to catch a lightning bolt on the tip of your tongue?
Nay, we do not. But we also live in an area tornadoes tend to jump over. Our neighbor has a video of the worst tornado this place has seen jumping over the neighborhood. We live next to the lake, and the shape of the land just for some reason directs storms around it. We keep an eye on bad weather, though, and we're pretty used to bad storms, so we usually know in plenty of time to just leave. Where would we go? Well, out of the path of the storm, of course. If somehow we didn't have much warning, there's some drainage pipes a couple of blocks away. Some of the people out here have storm shelters, but I really don't trust that they'll let us in.
Not necessarily. A warning around here usually means there's rotation in the clouds. We have several warnings each year with no tornadoes.
Yup, usually it means there is rotation or a funnel cloud has been spotted, or there is a signature in the radar called a hook echo which indicates a funnel cloud.
I've been through a couple, but I don't see that happening for you in Oregon. I lived in Missouri as a child, and a tornado went RIGHT OVER our school during a schoolday when I was in the second grade. I had been TERRIFIED of the prospect up until then, but it cleared up my fears when no one was harmed...except the tadpoles we had in our aquarium in the classroom.
