Ok I am thinking of making a hippie poncho and wanted some advice on how. What fabrics are good what do, that kind of shit. Old Hippies, young liberals please put in your say. just don't tread on me Peace
You can crochet or macrame one, in which case you'll need wool or similar. I have a brown knitted poncho made of alpaca wool with a strip of little horses on it. It's cute, it has a little hood on it. Go to your local op shop (ie thrift store) and look for some old crochet patterns. I'm pretty positive you'll find some - I found heaps. Crochet is very difficult to do by the way.
I am going to stay away from croacheting, as liberated as I am I am looking for somewhat of a manish design. Any thoughts some fabrics that are warm but also breath well, like an all season type of deal?? by the way what is macrame??
Macrame's a similar deal to crocheting but it seems to look easier. The only fabric poncho I can think of are the ones Clint Eastwood wears in his spaghetti western movies... they sorta look like blankets. Someone else may be able to help with fabric ponchos. Best of luck dude!
I have one made from Alpaca wool, warmest thing you could ever imagine. If you can get hold of some of that, it's perfect....
Depends if you get a real one, or one of those fake trendy string ones being mass marketed at the moment. I went to Peru a couple of years ago, we went trekking in the Andes. At night the temperature would sharply drop with no sun or cloud cover so high up in the mountains. I took with me a lot of mountain wear, warm hiking coats etc. But the locals didn't. All they would wear to keep them warm were thick, light ponchos made from Alpaca wool. Now if local culture and experience had allowed this garment to evolve out of necessity, who am I to argue with centuries of history? So I bought one of their ponchos. It made a world of difference. No matter where I've been, no matter how cold it gets, I've never felt cold in it. I've never found a coat as warm as a Peruvian poncho. It's like a kind of magic....
