okay, so dogs and other animals have often been used to help win wars in various ways......

but dogs i can only imagine would be useful for tracking or fighting.

in WWI apparently at least the germans had gas masks for dogs, due to the widespread use of mustard gas and phosgene

my question is, what use is a dog in a war zone if his head is all covered up? what did they use the dogs for?

i'm really curious, i can't figure it out and haven't bothered looking it up yet - i'm curious first if anyone knows already or could make some good guesses:cheers2:

anyway, i want to get a gas mask for my dog, just in case there's another Y2K and the world ends again :D

ugh poor things! I mean it would have been worse for them to breathe the gases but then.. why the fuck did they bring them out is the question.. could they even bark in there?

lol, i know, i think its kinda fucked up to use animals in war, but, people always have and likely always will (until the robot wars )

so yeah, its sad....but still, the question begs itself.....

what the fuck could hooded dogs do to help in a war??

Ahhh, duh, once the gas passes, the mask comes off, just like their human counter parts.. What good would they be tracking or fighting anything if they are dead from a gas attack ?

    Peace

thats exactly what i'm asking, man. and its not like you have warnings of the attacks. idk, i figured you'd keep the masks on to protect you, not wait until you're in a cloud of gas to use them

Are you quite certain that photo is from WWI? Looks like a WWII uniform.

i'm not positive. it said it was from WWI when i found the pic, though, and i was searching in relation to phosgene.

i was under the impression that chemical warfare wasn't used widely in WWII. just chemically related atrocities in the camps :(

Yeah you do have warnings of a gas attack, it's not like those soldires ran around wearing a gas mask 24/7, an accurate gas attack back then was not likely, the bomb would been seen hitting and the gas would form a cloud and spread out so you in most cases have time to put on a mask. The dog handler would have a mask for himself and the dog.

    Peace

Dogs would be useful to track mines and give away enemy shelling positions.
