Aside from taking drugs and visiting the RLD what do you like to do in Amsterdam? I'm going to be there in September and I'd really like to hear some good rock music. I'm a fan of Jefferson Airplane and The Pixies so if there's anything at all similar being played I'd love to hear it. I'm also interest in seeing some live jazz. Whilst I'm there I thought it might be nice to see a few films. Preferably in English, especially if that's the language they were filmed in, but subtitled would be fine. I know a lot of people in the centre of Amsterdam speak English but are there many English language films being shown?
Really? It seems a bit out of the way to go there just to chill (if you're staying in the centre of town).
Jazz: check out Club Alto (just off the Leidseplein). There are other jazz venues as well. Don't miss the great cultural sites the city has to offer: museums, parks, concertgebow, outdoor markets (they are soooo great!) def go to a movie, it's a fun experience. they have intermissions and sell beer!! how cool!
I forgot they served beer at the cinema. I'll definitely be doing that. I was planning on heading to Waterlooplein almost as soon as I get there, I could do with a new coat. Apparently life size painted elephant statues are being displayed all over town (September - November). I'm looking forward to seeing them.
3rd nod for Vondelpark - nothing is far away in Amsterdam and it would be a shame to miss it because it might take you 10 minutes to get to. If the weather is good it the best place to be although it can get quite busy because everyone has the same idea! You can bbq in the park too so get a disposable bbq, some beers and some food - put the bbq on some stones or you'll scorch the grass and leave a dirty black rectangle. Go further west to find a quieter spot - but don't take mine! Rent a bicycle and be safe - it's something like €10 for 24 hours and a great way to see the city. Yes, you will look like a tourist on your bright red/yellow/other bike but that means the locals will be wary of you and understanding - I wish I had one sometimes....! A friend runs a listing site http://mygigs.org/ that should lead you onto other ticket sites where you will get even more listings. I've wished you this once but, y'know, it's the Oceans 13 - enjoy! J
Cheers for the link. I'll definitely have to go to Vondlepark, see what all the fuss is about. I think I might need to try some of that Oceans 13 too, it seems to be doing you the world of good.
I'd like to visit Artis. I've heard other people recommend Boom Chicago but I've never been to a comedy club before. I'd hate to show up and spend the evening being humiliated by some stand up comedian.
If you are on a bicycle then the Vondelpark is close. If you aren't on a bicycle then you are missing out. Also its fun to check out the following: Rijks Museum Stedijk Museum Cafe Gollem Cafe In De Wildmen Brouwerij Ij Take a canal tour / rent a boat Coffeeshops like: Grey Area, Amnesia, Barneys, Basjoe, Green Place, Katsu, De Tweede Kamer, Dutch Flowers, Homegrown Fantasy, etc. Ride a bike through Vondelpark
