So I just realized for the last 6 years my health insurance has not covered one single thing. I have had various health insurance companies over these years including Blue Cross and Aetna. Before I go to a doctor I check with my insurance to make sure this doctor is part of my ppo. Then I check with the doctor's office that they accept the insurance. The office charges me the $20 or $25 for the visit and send the bill to the insurance. I think I'm in the clear and then 3 or 4 months down the road I get the bill from the doctor's office telling me the insurance didn't cover my visit. Every time it's a different reason too. Either they insurance thinks I a had pre-existing condition, or the insurance wasn't covering during that time frame, or that office is not part of the PPO.

Anyone else experience this? Why does it feel like I half to fight with my insurance company every time I visit the doctor? Any recommend a good health insurance that will actually take care of me?

    Move to Canada maybe? :p

That has to be frustrating. There's the main reason why health insurance shouldn't be a privately-owned enterprise. People's well-being is harmed by greed.

It's pretty much the same for me. I really just see health insurance as a just in case for any major medical needs (knock on wood). But I pretty much gave up on insurance covering anything else.

My rant is slightly different since I'm from the UK and we have the NHS. And it really just is a crazy old rant not to be taken seriously.

I dislike the NHS though and have always paid privately for my health insurance. Just recently though they decided to up my monthly payment to a crazy amount that I can't afford and I have had no option but to cancel it. It's incredibly annoying, since I developed some allergies and skin problems that I needed to see a private dermatologist for. Since I'm not covered by my insurance company anymore I'd like to take out a new policy elsewhere, but getting them to cover me for pre-existing medical conditions ups the bill by a lot. The NHS sucked with my skin problem and wouldn't perform necessary biopsys and tests needed, and I never even saw a dermatologist on the NHS. Once I'd finally found a sympathetic GP and explained to her that I have health insurance she refered me to my private derm. I once phoned my derm's secretary and was seen the next morning in an emergency appointment by my derm and was whisked straight into theatre. It was a nasty problem, and I couldn't get anywhere close to that kind of treatment on the NHS. I'd have been waiting months for any procedure involving theatre :(

What's also annoying is that my sister used her health insurance for a major spine operation. In all the years that the insurance plan had been paid, the moneys amounted to more than the cost of the operation yet the insurance company only paid certain amounts which left my sister with a small bill for the surgeon and a hefty bill for the anaesthetist and the hospital stay/care. So I realised then that it would just have been better to save in a bank account for a medical emergency should there ever be one. Too late now though.

    Phew, I feel better!:D

Sorry for abusing your OP Kaydi. I totally get your frustration and hope you get things sorted.

Health insurance in the US is crap. Of course, not having it=even worse. Without any insurance, I can't even see a doctor unless I pay upwards of $150 a visit ahead of time.
