I have a beautiful garden, but they are stealing ALL of my tomatoes! I haven't gotten one in at least 2 months!!! I live in the woods and I know it's to be expected that some of my stuff goes missing, but not all of it. Any suggestions???

I spent about an hour this very morning watching a squirrel trying to get to some tomato plants someone was growing on a fire escape. The owner had a cat, and the cat could easily get out onto the fire escape AND also get inside, downstairs, and to the outside bottom of the fire escape. The squirrel ended up at the topmost part of the fire escape mechanism, but couldn't get back down due to the cat. The cat finally left the area but the squirrel remained for a a LONG time!

dont kill an animal just cuz it needs a tomato :( Try some HOME MADE CHILLI SPRAY on your plants.

sun lion is quite about cats and squirrels.
i've got two dogs that just love to chase the squirrels up the trees!
after the squirrels are up a tree, they chatter back at the dogs (ha,ha,ha,ha... you can't get me!) that gets the dogs really piss off!
then my four cats come over to the tree and start climing it... THAT SHUT THOSE SQUIRRELS UP RIGHT QUICK TOO!
THE SQUIRRELS DON'T LIKE THAT SHIT ONE BIT FROM THE CATS!
i have seen the cats and squirrels lie down almost touching noses and, twich their tails at each other.
i have never seen the cats and squirrels fight though. they always get bored with the squirrels and walk off; it is like the cats are saying to the squirrels "oh, fuck you... your no fun anymore!"
i have no doubt that the dogs would injure and, might even kill the squrrels if they were to catch them.

cats and dogs do a great job at keeping the squirrels away; and, best of all. the squirrels never, ever learn, to let their guards down with the cats or dogs and, the cats and dogs, never tire out of being a pain in the ass to the squirrels either!

I agree and a yappy dog or a big cat does wonders also. But I would never consider shooting them.

Thanks for the input. My cat disappeared a couple months ago and I haven't gotten another one yet... I'm nervous to keep small animals running around with the bears we have. I do have a very large dog that tries, but he's pretty lazy. I will try some chili spray. They sure as hell don't touch my jalapenos or habeneros. Those are growing beautifully. I have so many that I don't know what to do with them.

Seek out a Maine Coon kitten they grow sometimes to 15 lbs. and are friendly family kind of cats. What sort of bears do you have in Florida I would expect alligators but not bears...

Why do you think that squirrels should have all of our tomatoes?

    Hey! Wait a minute!

My tomato plants were destroyed last year by a rat. This year I used Tomcat and it solved the problem. It might work for squirrels too. I just put it at the entrance to my garden and well away from the crops of course. I hate to kill animals, but decided the crop was more important.
