I started an Earth Team in my town, and its become pretty popular... i just dont feel like its reached its full potential. so far we've had earth walks, where we walk along major streets in my town and pick up the garbage. we protest, and we bring awareness. but i still just feel like we need more. any ideas of what we can do to really get people's attention and help the earth??

OHH we also had a garage sale, to raise money & do one of the three R's: reduce, reuse, recycle.

take all your computers,mp3 players, cell phones,tv's and any other electronic devices you have and smash them into little pieces, recycle what you can and renounce the environmental destruction that comes with the consumerism of electronics..

lemme, guess, your not willing to go that far??

cell phones & tvs i could live with. ipod & computer? not sure i could handle :) but one of the things we are going for is to show people that you don't necessarily have to go to extremes to help. its not like we ask people to become Amish or anything. just little, easy things.

What about asking your local small business' if they are RRR.
See if you can help them...plus, is there any local government/citizen dialouge?
    Especially with people your age...

Another teenager trying to rid the guilt of living on Earth that everyone seems to have these days by buying into another silly cause. Holding signs (In fact, it produces trash. Great idea!) isn't going to do anything.
If you really want to 'help' the Earth, changing your ONE life will do much more than 'spreading awareness' will. Take everything I could assume about you from this one post...
You waste money on fancy clothes and makeup, when that money could be used for a better cause. You use the internet, and computer, (And no doubt cell phone, and your profile picture shows headphones for an MP3 player) when the world would infinitely benefit from you not using or buying into those products of companies. Your picture in your album also shows some Fancy bathroom...all things you do not need but bought anyway to
improve' your quality of living... Think of EVERYTHING you have bought in the last year....clothes you didn't need, food you could live without, electronics, jewelry, all sorts of things. For every product you buy, there is money and energy spent on advertisements, stores, factories, workers and employees, everything.
If the consumer (which is you) doesn't buy those things said consumer doesn't need, you are supporting your 'love Earth' cause way more than picking up a Starbucks wrapper.
Which reminds me....the products and the trash...NOT buying a Gatorade means that much less trash you are contributing to.

    But, as someone else said,

you probably aren't willing to change your life in those ways.

It is a trend, you see.

    Go buy a $20 'Go Green' Tee-shirt,

    that'll show 'em.

Don't forget about your school, if you're still in school. I tried to start a recycling program in high school, but my douchebag prinipal actually said no.

    Good to know.....

We had a 'recycling' club at my school. Recycling for the most part is bullshit....
People take something used up, and waste energy, time, and money turning it into some useless products (That the world would be better without anyway)
All while advertising it as 'Green, Ecofriendly, Organic' etc, so people can pay ten times as much for it thinking they are actually helping something.
It is all marketing. Yuppies buy into it more and more everyday, and companies profit. Not the Earth, the businesses.

sure you could assume those things, but you are completely wrong. i make my own clothes, using clothes that no longer fit me, and i also buy from goodwill (secondhand clothes). i use only make up that i know wasn't tested on animals and i use only a hair straightner, which actually uses less energy than an average one. i do use an ipod and a computer, but i limit my use on the computer, & i don't watch tv. i dont buy expensive things. where did you get the fancy bathroom thing from...? i dont eat fast food, i only buy food from a local market. i appreciate your interest in my supposed life though :)

Also, i dont ride in cars, nor do i plan on getting a drivers license. I'm sorry that your life sucks so bad that it has put you in a mood of constant negativity. Or maybe its just the need to disagree with anything someone believes in? Whichever the case may be, i don't need you thinking you know everything while everyone else, realizing that we don't know every little fact out there, are content and happily living our lives.

You do not sway me a bit. You can get self righteous, but your 'energy efficient flat iron' says it all.
    Want to save energy?
Get rid of the Damn thing. Looks and frivolities will always be top of the list,
with 'saving the Earth' at the bottom.

Your bathroom in the background of your picture. It is painted and decorated. Looks like it has a fancy mirror. All useless things that help the Earth none.

I am not knocking your life. I use the computer, buy electronics and manufactures clothes, but I am not one to claim I am doing anything else.
I kill cows and pollute, it is my human way. I'm just saying,

don't think it is anything more.

Danny you know that its not really about the earth don't you? It's really about us and keeping the earth in suitable conditions so that we can live on it, think about it. The earth was here long before us and will be here long after. The earth doesn't care if its covered in water, lava, or plastic. The earth doesn't care if its atmosphere its made primarily of nitrogen and oxygen or carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide. It's humans that care.

That being said, please don't get the idea that I think you are wasting your time. I just wanted to point out what the real motivation behind this craze is. People always try to play games with their words and this is another example. I don't see the need to pretend to be all noble do you? We wanna protect our asses and ya know what? thats ok.

    And there it is......
the 'your life sucks' argument. Pseudo cleverly used by poor arguers everywhere that simply have nothing else to bring to the table.

Kudos to you, you are mediocre!

If you are so content and happy, why do you feel the need to pretend to be changing the World with your garbage parades?

you arent understanding. its not about putting humans last and making the earth #1. its about doing the things that really take no effort for us, but help keep the earth a little cleaner and a little better for humans to live on. its not like we want everyone to just drop everything they do and have and worship the earth. god damn, its about helping the environment stay clean.

This is SO funny to me. Really. I only wish you could see how contradicting you are.

I am not a 'go greener'. I do not recycle, or purposely buy recycled products. I support the slaughtering of animals, the use of non-renewable resources, and all of that.

Same as you. (You may not realize it, but the same.)

    But.

I am not pretending to do anything more

I made it big and flashy so maybe you could understand.

ALL I am saying is keep doing what you are doing, I do not care. But don't pretend to be some saint for it, that is just annoying.
