Which guitar in your opinion has better playability, tone, diversity for participating in live jams? Not heavy metal jam music, more mellowed out music.

I'd say it's entirely up to the player.

You dont need a strat only to jam, or a LP only to jam. You can jam with a stick and a beer bottle. You can record with that for that matter too..Clapton started on an LP, I think they are generally known more for their Jazz sound.

I owned a 60s LP and 1969 Strat with Maple neck, Strat all the way for me. More Grundgey

In my opinion I like jamming with a fender more. I like the sound more and the feel of the guitar. Plus fender has the whammy bar. I can't live without my whammy bar with some fuzz and wah on.

I'd say Strat, just because the single coils provide a more versatility of tone.

It really doesn't matter. The notes you play are what matters.

I can not stand fenders. The necks are too wide for my liking. I love the neck on LTD les paul copies, and les pauls themselves.

Comparing the two is like comparing Sly Stallone (the Les Paul) to Weird Al (the Strat). I own two of each:

    Les Paul

    -Mellow thicker tone
    -Much more diverse tone
-A little harder to reach higher frets
    -Better neck and feel imo

    Strat

    -Whiny, spanky tone (to countryish)
-Imo only the neck position is useful
-Plays a little easier comfort wise (better guitar if you have smaller hands)
-Lighter, therefore a little more comfortable to sit with

But ultimately if you want to sound better (which is what music is all about, sound) then definately go with a Les Paul.

Again with Gibson being overpriced for shitty build quality. Besides, you can always get A Strat with a humbucker or 2 in it if thats more your speed. I play a 2003 American HSS and its one of the best guitars Ive ever played.

Ugh I wish I could have at least played one of those O__O

I currently have a MIM standard strat, I got to plug it into a cermitone 68' marshall plexi clone with a Fulltone OCD and I almost died from the tone!!!!

I'd have to say strat all the way.

I totally agree with the above two posters. :cheers2:

If I were to add my own opinion, I'd also say the two guitars are just different from each other, one is not necessarily better or worse. Some may prefer a Les Paul while others go for a Strat.

I've had a Strat(not an American one however) and also a Les Paul, and love the sounds of both of them. I could jam on either and enjoy equally.

You can't get any two guitars more different. Go to a store and see which one YOU like best. Everyone has their own different taste, just like drugs and beer.

They are both over-priced and over-rated... lots of great guitar makers out there
that aren't still riding on a 60+ year old design...
