Haha... oh man, this is great.. straight out of futurama. So they want to move our planet to make it colder. Great. But is our planet too hot? Is global warming real, or a natural occuring event? Also, how will the orbit change affect the other planets in our solar system? And so on.. I'm glad we've got the tech and vision to even consider something like this, but there's a whole lot of stuff we need to understand before we throw the dice with our entire world at stake.
No, I haven't, the hysteria over this article is idiotic. everyone at nasa KNOWS this wouldn't ever be done, it's just an option. irradiated flies are used to kill off other insects in agricultural communities, which is an incredibly far fetched idea, but it is actually used, and quite well accepted in some places. the implementation of this idea isn't far fetched, the outcome is tricky, and no one at nasa WANTS it done, it just gets suggested just like anything else, people bounce around ideas in a more complete way in venues like that. one of the methods for stopping global warming is a large constellation of satellites that will absorb solar energy, and either bounce it back into space, or convert it into electricity, but that doesn't cause the idiot paranoid reaction that moving the planet does, so it doesn't get as much mention, but it would have much scarier long term implications. academic cultures, ESPECIALLY academic cultures like JPL and NASA don't work by saying "Hey we should do this" they work by saying "Hey, we could do this"
More of your tax dollars go to worse shit. at least the data from this can be used for martian, and venusian terraforming.
in the long run terraforming is potentially useful (if we don't use the money from the other shit to kill ourselves first) we have enough weapons to wipe out the entire population of earth a couple hundred times over. once would do it. a lot of the stuff nasa actually does do IS useful though.
If that is the case, then we don't need to be talking about it. I'm not going to give it another thought.
having worked at Nasa before.. they are friggin' clueless.. time to disband it. Theft and fraud are out of control and have been for a number of years Terra forming Venus and Mars...lol
I won't disagree. The Air Force could take over all of the Kennedy Space Center. They have always had a sizable operation there. JPL already has responsibility for most of the pure science projects.
I'm just wondering where NASA gets off making planetary decisions like that. You're gonna stir up the "terrorists" and get attacked again, thinking like that.
When I was in high school the stat I heard was that if the yearly avg temp of the planet dropped 6 degrees we'd be in the midst of a new ice age... Six measly degrees... Maybe the differential is bigger now, but the point remains that it's a fine line between global warming and ice age... :cheers2:
