I am sure it will be a couple more days before we really know, but I am sure there is more than meets the eye. This seems like a diversion tactic.

So, you think public system will come through despite the overwhelming outcry and pressure opposed to it, according to this article?

I'm glad we finally got government out of this. I mean, what has government accomplished, really? I mean, sure, it put men on the freakin moon, built an extremely effective Interstate highway system, carried out rural electrification for people who waited generations for it, laid out the Internet (which people use to whine about government, oddly enough), created Social Security (widely regarded as the most successful quality-of-life program ever implemented in human history), and implemented tens of thousands of other programs which were beyond the interest/abilities of the greed-based "private" sector.

It's the private sector, not government, that stuffs your mailbox with spam; it's government, not the private sector, that delivers PBS. I see a quality difference between the two that righties can't see because of the hands over their eyes. IMHO.

Look at the Republican leadership- completely batshit insane and ranting at public meetings with the vocabulary no better than that of a six year old child. Actually, Grassley's speech and display would be embarrassingly childish to an above-average six year old.

Personally I think those "conservative" politicians will pay dearly for screwing the public as they've done, but I guess we'll see on election day.

Eh, they're doing exactly what I thought they would do. Promise to fix a horribly broken system, but back down. They come up with these plans that would cover everyone, help a lot of people who can't afford medicine to live, etc. But then special interest groups, Republicans, and even some Democrats do nothing but complain and argue until all they have done is change the name of the current system, pretty much leaving it the shitty way it is.

There isn't going to be any real change until the people who support change get as loud as those who oppose it.

And another thing: all these people who keep complaining that the government is lying to them, wants to kill them, etc., WHERE THE HELL HAVE YOU BEEN FOR THE LAST 8 YEARS? I mean, we complain, we're called traitors to America who hate freedom, but when the right complains, it's "exercising your first amendment right". These people who are protesting healthcare and insulting the president are the same people that for the last 8 years have been telling people against war and for civil liberties that it is unpatriotic and treason to talk bad about our glorious leaders.

Tell me, about healthcare, who has the right to decide if you live or die? No one. Everyone gets an equal right. Natural selection will weed out the idiots who drink bleach to pass a drug test or those who wonder what it would be like to stick lit bottle-rockets up their ass. But for people who have cancer due to enviroment, for people who get a serious illness at no real fault of their own, hell, even people that made mistakes with their lives and it's too late to make ammends, healthcare is a right, not a privilage. Shouldn't matter how much money you have, or who you know. It should only matter that you are a human being looking for some compassion when you're ill.

You people who are trapped in the right/left paradigm are really the ones who don't get it.

I am sure there are special interest groups controlling the opposition to Obama's health care reform. However, I know for a fact there are many more which are behind it, including big pharma, which, at the same time, is pushing for laws greatly restricting people's access to non-GMO foods and over-the-counter supplements (see codex alimentarius).

That's how politics work, especially on a big issue like this. They aren't so much backing down as they are trying to increase support by compromising. The supporters know they aren't going to pass this shit without major changes...

It goes both ways, get over it.

Bingo! I have no health coverage and I would love to be able to go to te doctor and shit. And I certainly wouldn't mind my tax dollars heping someone else out.

If they're are not going to offer a public option, what the point of what they're trying to do.They really are not going to accomplish much.---It would be very stupid and a big mistake to avoid a public option.

I think people that are against a one payer system really haven't taken the time to study up on Denmark,France,Sweden,Spain, ect and see how theirs works. All Obama seemingly intended to do was ADD an option for those that can't afford the exhorbitant costs and cherry-picking of the for -profit system. To make profits on life or death decisions seems out of line to me.Even if they did pass a one payer system,as soon as the republicans got back in(the inevitableness of that makes me sick)they'd junk it anyway. The balls of those fuckers with their great healthcare options.Gotta keep that pac money rolling in from Pharma and the insurance companies.

Cause it's bad to address groups of people??

Anyways, the liberal vs. conservative thing truly is one of the most harmful and stupid reoccurring trends in politics/political debate.

What do you suggest ?Duels?People aren't going to agree. The best way to work things thru is rational discussion.Of which we haven't seen much lately.

That's my favorite thing about the current administration. They encourage discussion, even debate. However, they too often fail to retain, use, or settle on any of the good points from any side.

I dunno. That seems sort of like a cope-out to me. I'm sure he knew what kind of responses he would have in the future.

I was just looking at a poll on facebook about whether atheism should be banned in America (????????). Obviously that has nothing to do with this; but for some reason the comment section had a debate about the health care issue instead of banning atheism. The arguments of those against health care reform tended to go as follows:

"People who can't afford insurance and health care now are only in that position because they are lazy and unproductive."

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but isn't it the case that if you redistributed all of the money not controlled by the richest 10% (that is 90% of the money - I think? These figures might be off, I can't remember the exact numbers) so that each member of that poorer 90% had an equal amount of money, that every one of them would struggle just to meet their basic needs?

Assuming this is correct, this means that there simply isn't enough money available to that lower 90% for everyone to be able to afford health care/insurance, especially when taking into consideration that some of those lower 90% will be more monetarily successful than others, meaning that some percent of the population is necessarily going to get horribly screwed regardless of how productive or nonproductive they are.

And what group, which income bracket, do you think most fervently opposes health care reform and any of Obama's other "socialist" policies? The same people who claim that those who can't afford health care now have only themselves to blame are the same people responsible for making it logically impossible for every single person to be able to afford health care by hoarding almost all of the money for themselves.
