Many times i've been told that bigger people need to take more than smaller people to get high, makes sense right? Thats been quite wrong in my experience as with almost every drug Ive done, Ive tripped, nodded, or just been more stoned than people with me...even in cases where smaller people take higher doses. Many of my experiences with acid have been with 2 specific friends, one whos like 120 pounds and another whos like 130 both like 5'7''.....Im 6'3'' and about 160 and always seemed to trip harder than them...visually and mentally...to the point they don't even believe me. off one hit ive had experiences that id say were ego death or atleast really close, one which I know SPECIFICALLY was ego death, it took someone talking to me for like 10 seconds before i snapped out and realized I existed and that I wasnt just the world, watching a group of kids in a room talking (all my friends tripping, I just sat there staring in a trance for like 3 0seconds with the most INSANE mindfuck ever, dont even know if it was in english i was speaking in my head, didnt know I had thoughts or a body or i eexisted or anything, I felt like just the information center of the universe recording the day of those kids... really weird shit.

So, does anyone know the legitamacy of the claims bigger people need more to trip? am I just lucky for my tolerance?:D

I think it works as a general rule of thumb but it's far from the only factor.

Why though? does a bigger person have more receptors or less or something, why would body size determine how much your receptors are played with..I can understand it causing a change in duration as it may take longer to get through the body, or be metabolized or something...but can anyone scientifically explain this?

Personally I think it has way more to do with a person's specific neurotransmitter levels/brain chemistry, as I am around your same size, slightly heavier and have found that I am seemingly quite sensitive to psilocin, as it takes around half an eighth of mush to produce a medium to heavy trip for me while other friends eat an entire eighth to themselves and have a body buzz.

bigger body = more surface area = more drug:body ratio.

well...when looking at something like your liver and alcohol body size is a big deal, but it's been said that LSD doses have nothing to do with body weight [we've all heard about the elephant acid overdose]

idk, from what i've observed, body size doesn't matter for most psychedelics[2c-x, lsd, mushrooms...ect]. Dissociative doses correspond to weight [dxm, and K atleast, i would assume that PCP, 4-meo-pcp, and dizocilpine are about the same].

I'm not too sure about most stimulants, i know smaller people usually don't have to ingest as much cocaine, but i don't think size has much to do with amphetamine doses [or methylphenidate analogs].

Who knows with weed, tolerances are SO different that it leads me to believe that body weight has nothing to do with body weight at all. In fact, i know a 90 pound girl who can smoke like 30x more pot than i can...haha

The way chemicals are metabolized seems to have a lot to do with their dose/weight response.

THE INTERESTING THING is that in "DMT the spirit molecule" strassman measured the doses in ".x mg/pound"

    makes me wonder

As far as I know, psychadelics like LSD and what not dont tend to be affected by body size.

they actually are, but LSD is so goddamn potent that the difference between a 100lb dude taking 100ug and a 300lb dude taking 100ug is a difference in effects of like 0.001%. drugs with higher doses, like mdma, ketamine, dxm, what have you, multiply this effect accordingly.l

I think it depends on the particular drug, tolerance, AND body size.

So.....I'm just lucky to be so godamn sensitive to most drugs ive taken
5mg valium no tolerance=really drowsy and usually asleep
7.5 mg Oxy=me passing out at computer desk and day dreaming constantly
1-1.5 hit potent acid=sometime egodeath, INSANE visuals still the strongest ive had
3 grams shrooms eaten=INTENSE visuals, blank tranced mind (wierd for psychs, like valium or something)
after a half year tolerance break one hit of a spliff will kill me, but right now im smoking like .5 to get decently high, usually smoke gram in bong every session.

what other known factors effect tolerance (other than going on binges and having tolerance raise)

40 lbs would barely made a difference i'd think
you might notice it with something like alcohol, but probably not psychedelics and especially acid, as mr. writer said

A biochemist should know this one for sure, which is what porkstock is studying...

I would venture to assume binding affinity has a lot to do with it. If its a chem that likes to stay in the brain, then it wont matter as much. If its one with a lower binding affinity, then the bodyweight would matter a lot more. A bigger person has more blood. You have to reach a certain blood level in order to experience effects. Makes sense to me.

I've been told that bigger people have more trouble getting the shit out of their system but nothing about actually smoking.

I think past experiences with drugs may affect it also. I tend to not trip as hard as my friends who've only taken psychedelics 4-5 times. Long-term tolerance I suppose.

You will notice this effect with substances that enter your bloodstream, like alcohol and marijuana - bigger people will generally need more than smalles ones, simply because they have more blood and tissue to intoxicate.

LSD and psychedelic drugs affect neurotransmitters and/or receptors in the brain, and so body size won't matter, at least not significantly.. I believe.
