I like to smoke when taking walks out in the woods, or sitting next to a fire or large body of water or anything beautiful and calming. It's not the only way to connect to nature, but the different perspective is always welcome. But...if I'm high I CANNOT meditate. Meditation gives me a very strong natural high, and when I combine the two the body waves/rollercoasters make me nauseous. When I first started smoking I loved the fun flying-elevator feeling; but now when I meditate and get it, makes me sick. And nothing wrong with going on an enlightenment trip (I'm all for shaman-like ritual as well), but in my own sacred space I like to be clear headed and focused and feel the strength of natural vibrations. They can be potent in themselves, yet I can stay focused.
I think its a matter of personal opinion. However, I do not believe that drugs "close us off" because think of all the native cultures that have used drugs in religious ceremonies. Different native american cultures used drugs like peyote, mushrooms, salvia divinorum, and toads to induce religious experience. When I was still spiritual I used marijuana as a tool to get me closer to the earth and it worked wonders.
I feel much more connected to earth when I smoke. I see things more clearly. I do just about everything high, even rituals.
I personally seperate being high on substances and my spiritual highs. I just think for me, there's a time and a place for each. But, I understand how pot can give you a closer feeling to the earth.
Under the any religions at all category, this substance has been used for a long time by many different kinds of Tantrics in Bharata.
