I have read recently that it's fairly common to see people barefoot in liquor stores. I have seen barefooters in gas stations, but never a liquor store. I notice most barefooters in dollar general, and sometimes wal mart. What about you?
Well aside from parks and public greens, where a lot of people will be barefoot because it's grass, the other common-ish place to see people barefoot would be theme parks. Most of the time it's just on the rides (the ones where there's nothing between your legs and the ground, and there's a risk of any items that aren't secured (including loose-fitting shoes) being lost. But occasionally you do see people walking barefoot around the theme park as well.
At the lake or beach. Most places in Arizona they won't allow you in their establishments unless you have some type of foot covering (some sort of shoes wearing). That sucks.
I was in Phoenix a few weeks ago and tried walking barefoot from a gas pump (in the shade) across sunbaked concrete (no covering) to the door of the associated convenience store. It was only about 50-60 ft (15-20 m) across the hot concrete, but my feet were fried! It was ~115 deg F (46 deg C) in the shade. About halfway across the concrete, I realized this might not be the best idea, but I was at the point of no return. Walking back to my car wasn't as bad, but I think I had cooked all the nerves in my soles by then! I'm not sure there's a place where I've seen bare feet more frequently. Usually I'm just out and suddenly realize someone else is barefoot. As far as places not allowing bare feet in Arizona, I'm curious if that's a firm policy or a perception? I didn't see too many "No shoes, no shirt, no service" signs when I was there. Home Depot has those signs, but I've been barefoot to several of their stores without any problem. My experience is that it's more a matter of trying to go barefoot someplace and seeing how it's received. My experience has been that 99% of the time I'm pleasantly surprised.
When I was a kid, growing up in southeast Texas, I went barefoot everywhere. To the grocery store, the gas station, to the park, and such. But when I went to school I had to wear shoes. But in some of these places, now as an adult, I tried to and got kicked out! They said you can wear sandals or flip-flops, but you have to have some sort of type of shoes on! Shoot!!! That sucks these days. Most of the bars (in Prescott, Arizona where I live) you have to wear some type of shoes to be accepted in or you'll get kicked out. That sucks! Because of most of downtown Prescott is habitated by hippies, old hippies, and retirees. This sucks!! Probably this came from those stupid redneck, cowboys and cowgirls, that live here too. They kind of set up the rules for Prescott.
We went to Prescott for an afternoon one day. I think the downtown area you're talking about is probably where "The Palace" is located along Montezuma St. Yeah, it definitely has the cowboy flair about it! I'll follow your lead that bare feet aren't tolerated there. Too bad. My comments were more targeted toward the metro-Phoenix area. It's more diverse there and probably more difficult for any one group to exert their values on the masses (the one possible exception might be the retirees, but many of them are seasonal "snowbirds"). When you mentioned the population makeup of Prescott my immediate thought was it sounds like Boulder, CO. Boulder is an interesting blend of students, old hippies, hippie wanna-be's, and young professionals who like the outdoors. For the most part, people there are pretty tolerant of whatever - as long as it doesn't impinge on others.
i don't see them much period... the only one that i normally see other then me is this one kid i am friends with or a couple people at parties
Erm, I think the orginal poster meant seeing people in person, rather than just on photos online. The Fetishists on here probably already have lots of favourite websites they use anyway.
Well, if you don't count the obvious places like the beach, most of the barefoot people I see around here are just in kind of everyday places like the supermarket or the drugstore, or just walking down the sidewalk.
Saw a probably mid 40s lady in the gas station barefoot last night. I went barefoot all day. 2 wal marts, grocery store, and today to about 3 different stores
The place i see most barefooters is the Humber bridge country park, and often the bridge itself, but only in really warm weather, and they usually have shoes handy.
Public place to see barefooters? I'm assuming a public place where we usually DON'T see people barefoot (i.e.- Does NOT include beach / pool). I would have to say, without a doubt, Grocery stores and Kmart in the Outer Banks. Not so much Walmart, as it's so far removed from the shore. But weekends- the weekend beach goers use Kmart as the bathroom break place and end up getting food, beer, drinks, beach supplies and use the bathroom in barefeet and I have seen many girls (and guys) go in wearing nothing more than a bikini. Now, go into Kmart here in barefeet and a bikini and the cops get called 'cause #1 "There's a crazy person in the store--- help! help!" or #2 "That's against the law--- Arrest them!"
Yeah, most of northern Arizona is made up of old hippies, the new hippies and retirees. And not to mention, cowboys and cowgirls too (mostly in Prescott and Prescott Valley).
