If we provide free health calre to illegal immigrants do you think this will be a factor in attracting more illegal immigrants to America?
Aren't we already providing free care to them? I think it's jobs that is the drawing card. Stop employing them and they'll stop coming over the border. Slate has an interesting article taking the side of insuring them: http://www.slate.com/id/2223912/
How can "You" complain about illegals getting Free Health Care, while in the Health Care Reform thread, you complain there is no such thing as Free Health Care? You seem to think things are rough now,"quit employing them" try that and you'll see rough times. I remember last year the best plan you "gardener" could come up with to replace migrant field workers was, fat&lazy US teenagers.
I wasn't complaing, simply a response to the previous post. Perhaps you can tell me who pays for their health care today Crad? All I was saying was including them in this so called reform isn't going to affect the numbers coming over illegally. The only thing that will is the availability of paid employment. Dry that up you dry up the illegal alien problem if you happen to see it as a problem. I am not really sure I see it as a major problem. And if they are picking your lettuce and tomatos, etc. and are injured on the job someone better see to it that they get fixed up. Or do some of you promote deporting them when they are injured or sick from injuries and pesticide exposure incurred while employed by US employers? I as a teenager worked the ag crops. I was neither fat nor lazy. There was a double benefit I was healthier for being active and outdoors, and I learned the value of a dollar. Maybe a lesson today's youth needs to learn without expensive tution.
Hay Gardner thanks for the link....... You are right. My neighbor has no insurance. He got his apendicits operated on in a local hospital and received charity care. This guy was born here in The US and he does work. He has a job off the books in construction. On a fat week he can take home $1,000 but he pays no taxes, no insurance and no social security. Why should I subsidize his health insurance? We need everybody to contribute, not just Wall St. fat cats. Out Gvmt is sooo expensive, everybody should pay something. Where is the questioning as to controlls on abuse of the system by people ducking thier taxes, the Tony Soprano's of the world, All these tiny one man shops going under the radar. Let people be required to file a 1040 return before getting an insurance card. :beatdeadhorse5:
I'm here to say that I don't even really get the whole thing. Seems there are a lot of folks who don't. But they claim to, and all the yelling about how things are "gonna be if..." just confuses the issue even more. I really don't know what to think or what is actually being offered that everyone is so up in arms about. I DO think that the insurance companies need competition to keep them more honest. And I do think that any HUMAN should have access to health care. That being said, the actual health care "industry" needs to come down off it's high horse a bit (a lot). If you HAVE insurance, especially medicaid, the hospitals will keep you coming back over and over and give you the "FINEST" of care, even stuff that is totally unnecessary. Got a hang nail? Oh my god, gotta have blood tests, cholesterol tests, IV's, heart monitor........ and come back tomorrow...... Having a baby? Well, you CAN'T POSSIBLY DO IT NATURAL! Everybody uses SOMETHING for pain, right? Oh, you don't want to? Are you SURE? Are you sure you're sure? Are you POSITIVE you are sure??? Had the baby? Oh my god, gotta have a gazillion tests, poke and prod that baby, then do it again, then do it again, and if one of those tests comes back just the tiniest bit off, freak out, gotta come back tomorrow, day after tomorrow, next week. Make sure to get any unnecessary body parts cut off too if it's a boy, because after all, it's the acceptable thing to do. Add that to the bill. Breast feeding? Can't be good enough. Gotta breast feed and then try to FORCE that baby to take some formula too. After all, FORMULA is better for babys than breast milk!!!! Right? Little jaundice? OH NO, DON'T LET THAT BABY GET ANY REAL SUNSHINE!!!! Gotta bring that baby back to the hospital over and over again to put under a lamp. You would think that having babies was not a natural thing... Go to the clinic for something minor, don't accidentally say the wrong thing, or they'll hold you hostage for two days and do every test they can think of before finally announcing that there is nothing wrong. Duh, you already knew that. I said minor. Now, whatever health insurance you have won't stop all this nonsense, and the hospitals are the biggest culprits. So, how is the health care debate gonna fix THIS?
