Anyone out there dig blues? Heres some of my fav people, lets hear yours. Muddy Waters, Jimmy Rogers, Elmore James, Son House, Howlin' Wolf, Sonny Boy Williamson, Jimmy Reed and my fav Little Walter.
Joe Bonamassa Walter Trout Coco Montoya Kelly Richey Chris Duarte Albert King Albert Collins BB King Roy Buchanan Lonnie Mack
I love also Buddy Guy. His album "Blues Singer" is very soulful and deep. Blues is so strong music...can´t live without it.
Yes man, I especially like blues from artists like Junior Wells, Charlie Musselwhite, John Lee Hooker and a little blues rocking is even better, when you get the sounds like Bo Diddley and the Yardbirds made. When I got deeper into it I checked their guitarplayers out as well, and so I got into the stuff of Earl Hooker (who's style I prefer above Buddy Guy ) and Harvey Mandel. Another favourite of mine is Mike Bloomfield :cheers2: Also a fan of folky blues in the style of Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee and Davey Graham for example
As much as i dig groups like The Yardbirds(Five Live, what a record),The Pretty Things and The Animals,I'll always prefer the real mc coy.Bo is great ,though.Cops n Robbers and I Can Tell are superb. Chicago Calling by Jimmy Rogers is one hell of an album.
Some of my favorites (no order) Howlin Wolf Muddy Waters Buddy Guy John Lee Hooker Little Walter Sonny Boy Williamson BB King The Stones, actually, have a decent blues-ish album I think its either their first or second but its "The Rolling Stones Now!" They do a good cover of "Little Red Rooster" Also Hendrix has an amazing blues album called "Hendrix:Blues" its pretty awesome, he's got some good covers on there as well.
I know of the album.A bit different from the UK ones(same with The Beatles).Little Red Rooster was just a single here.
Hendrix is awesome of course, but I never really see him as a blues musician even though he was heavily into it. Jimi: blues and Raw blues are really nice albums indeed though. Actually he is the perfect example along with Bo Diddley why I generally prefer blues rock (psychedelic or not) above pure blues. My fav pure blues acts already have a bit more wild guitar in it already hehe. I don't like that over the top thick guitar sound in blues though, makes it loose it's original sound too much in my opinion. Just give me something like Earl Hooker!
I think it doesn´t matter how people consider Jimi as a musician of any style (or he considered himself). There are still songs which could sounds more bluesy and it´s nice and listenable. I have "Honkin´ On A Bobo" album by Aerosmith which is collection of blues tracks, you know, people who are into blues hear what are the music roots of the band, they´re rockers definitely. But I like their "rock tunes in the blues dress". Or "blues tunes in the rock dress"?
I've been pretty deprived of good blues musicians growing up, not to say my parents listened to crap (they liked a like of simon & garfunkel/hall and oates/clapton and such) Is it possibly true that john mayor is the only hope for (mainstream) blues rock out there? No, really, don't laugh, listen to continuum and try!, he's pretty damn good. I'm not too into it, but I can really appreciate it improv and just great blues composition and want to get more into it, but what's good for starters?
I don't like John Mayer's voice really. It doesn't sound bluesy at all. I have to admit he's not a bad artist but yeah, it just sounds really mainstream indeed. I liked some of his guitar playing though, but I won't put it on myself when I want to listen to blues. Anyway, if you think John Mayer is the only hope for (mainstream) blues and you think Simon & Garfunkel and Clapton are crap I don't really know what to suggest..
it's all about the blues around here, baby! Bessie Smith Big Mama Thornton Ma Rainey Memphis Minnie Howlin Wolf Robert Johnson Leadbelly Muddy Waters too many great blues players to even list here!...have any of you heard the album "electric mud"? it's got Muddy doing some of his biggest tunes backed by a psychedelic band - 'tis truly a trip! don't forget that "the blues ain't nothin but a good man feelin' bad...."
Oh no no no, I meant they didn't listen to crap, it just wasn't blues music. S&G and Clapton are phenomenal! I used to hate JM back when he was getting popular, but the trio cd (which my brother was really into) kind of got me interested. I'd love it if he was someone who'd just jam out, I'm not huge on his vocals myself, but i think i liked them a bit more when i started thinking he's got a hilarious personality, though he comes off to most as a jackass.
Yes! Frank Marino is an awesome blues guitarist. Come on Asmodean, if this don't tickle your blues bone I don't know what to tell ya... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YldfApwhir8 ZW
I'm not saying it is bad at all, but it doesn't tickle my blues bone I'm afraid. The guitar sounds rather cool near the end especially but I guess I look for different things in blues myself. Example of what tickles my blues bone guitarwise: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDOnoNglDWY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gIArmP6HcZk Damn, I just got goosebumps
