http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/8221599.stm Win Argentina has it going on, not only is weed now decriminalized their people are hot as fuck
Why can't the U.S. government decriminalize marijuana like other countries such as Argentina and Portugal? Oh wait, yea, that'll mean less drug cases for law enforcement and courts, which means that their revenue would go down.
yes but that also would mean that the tax prices could go through the roof. When you make that much in taxes, state and federal it wouldn't matter about your revenue going down. California right now is damn near bankrupcy the only thing keeping in holding on is weed. That's the state that is coming the closest right now to the decriminalizaiton process. Plus with the state of the economy right now decriminalizing would be very affective in ways of getting us outta the situation we are in right now. Look at the Great Depression in the 1920-30's and look at what happened after the end of prohibition it took a while but we got outta depression due to the state and federal government makeing all the tax money on the alcohol. So if Cali is gonna be the first trial state for decrimanalization I'm all for it. just hope it manages to comes East soon enough
i heard on conan, you know when they do news bits, but then make a joke about it...so i think it was real mexico made it legal to possess small amounts of marijuana, LSD, cocaine and heroin
What revenue, this is such a paranoid stoner thing that gets said constantly. Only in states where it's already decriminalized are fines ever paid, in most states it just clogs up the courts more and cost the state more money.
Yea, you're probably right, however, by decriminalizing marijuana, its possible for mj companies to emerge and put paper, rope (etc)producing companies out of business. So someones gonna get fucked over either way.
that's so true. sombody is going to get fucked over no matter what. hmmm... i guess the only thing the government cares about is who gets fucked over.
Pharmaceutical companies is the main thing that would get fucked... And they're kind of a big deal...
i wonder what a "small amount" is and i always wonder if weed becomes legal would the price go up or down? on one hand - it could be as cheap as other herbs and sell for like $5 an ounce. but on the other hand - everyone kinda knows the price for weed, so would the government just tax the hell out of it and make it cost even more than it does now? prob "the other hand"
There are many threads about it through out the hip forums. Also, googing it will produce hundreds of articles.
"The new legislation caps the quantities that would not be subject to prosecution at 50 milligrams of heroin, 2 grams of marijuana, 500 milligrams of cocaine and 40 milligrams of methamphetamine." http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/03/world/americas/03mexico.html I too wonder if weed prices would increase or decrease.
