http://www.motherjones.com/print/25997 Link is eye-pleasing: Anyone follow the Earl Jones scandal this summer? Millions of dollars ties up in offshore banks he was using, Bermuda being one the them. Tax heavens and hot spots for banking. I wonder why military government-junta governments are hot beds for bankers and wankers. Thoughts on surrounding political events in the South Pacific and Fiji?
I've found the lack of international action against Fiji's military government's postponement of elections to be ridiculous. Sure it made the news for one day, then that was it, I would love to hear Obama say "yo Fiji, wtf" in a speech one day. Fiji has tons of potential, despite the fact the population split near 50/50 between native Fijians and Indians wants to near commit genocide on each other, it gives Fiji a distinct culture, plus Fiji being Fiji should make it a tourist meca, which it kind of it is. And it's loaded with forest and mineral wealth. But governments and people become wary of going to places with military governments these days. God damn internet and your information. But then again this is the south pacific, so this falls into Australia's sphere of influence, or may New Zealand. But New Zealand is Australia's Canada. So all eyes on you Australia
Has anyone ever seen the films "Flow"? What are your opinions behind the politics of bottled water and private water?
Damn, Ari, I couldn't read all that, but I kinda got the gist of it. What I don't unnerstand is what's the big difference between one type of bottled water and the other, except image. And how can a company say they are environmentally friendly when the bottle has to fly 18,000 miles (or something like that) to get to my house and so many people today still don't recycle (I do.) or worse, litter. Just spend a little extra money up front, get a brita (or some other brand) filter and a nice metal bottle. They say metal bottles are better for you anyway, that the plastic leaks chemicals back into the water. So, now you don't have to buy those large packages, you don't have to pay, and there is less trash. All that being said, it sucks about Fiji's economy. It would be nice to see good things happen for them. But I need to worry about my personal economy, and our environment here at home, first.
