So I know you shouldn't use normal shampoo to wash dreads cause of build up etc so can you pls give me some good alternatives or tell me what you use to wash them. I brought some knottyboy dread shampoo and a shampoo bar but they're quite expensive!

I read something on here about baking soda, tea tree oil and salt but can't find the thread

    thanks

Lol whats the problem if you have already bought some shampoo? That will last you 6 months or so lol. Bonners is good, and so is bi carb on its own.

Oh and FYI, World Peace, who had her dreads for like 3 or 5 years used normal shampoo the whole time and after cutting them off she opened one up and it was fine, so I wouldn't be so bothered about normal shampoo ^^ Though with the dready stuff it is nice to be able to wash your hair only once a week or so instead of every 2 days ^^

I use Dr.Bronner's bar soap and sometime the liquid diluted. I use regular shampoo sometimes, too. I think residue free is best but I honestly prefer Bronner's because it's healthier altogether, not just better for dreads. The shit they put in shampoo these days is carcinogenic!!

Okay I don't wanna post on the thread again (It's buried for good cause), but don't use dish soap. My hair's never felt more dirtier, greasier or nastier. It feels like my whole scalp is locked into one helmet. NO.

Though that KB soap should be fine for you

I'd throw away all the poo's and just go with a baking soda rinse. It does wonders

normal shampoo is fine and you will probably have less residue than from bronners. just no conditioners or conditioning shampoos.

just water and nothing else is the best thing for your scalp imo.
next in terms of goodness is baking soda, then plain unscented natural bar soap.
deep clean every few months is aight too.

lol The problem is it has been 6 months.

So ppl are saying baking soda is the way forward? Does anyone know where that thread is that tells you what to do for a deep clean. I can't find it it's something like warm water, tea tree, lemon juice and salt and squirt it on.

A friend said that cheap supermarket brand shampoo is good cause that doesn't have much shit in it cause it's so cheap.. Any thuth in that?

I love having a deep clean it feels awesome!

My friend who had dreads for a couple years swore by dish soap... His hair looked cleaner than anyone I've ever seen.

    You probably used detergent.

what part of that do you not get? we get threads like this all the time, 'what shampoo should I use', 'wax or not to wax' and so on. The stickies have lots of information on these commonly asked questions and are in greater detail than people care to give every second or third day.
