Anyone take Benadryl for anxiety?

I had a mental health appointment today for my anxiety. The doctor told me she was going to prescribe me a form of prescription-strength Benadryl to take as needed, up to three times a day. I won't take anything that's not compatible for pregnancy and breastfeeding (we're trying for a baby), so maybe she was afraid to give me anything stronger, since a lot of docs think you pretty much can't take anything with breastfeeding, even though there are lots of meds that are safe.

Has anybody ever used Benadryl? Did it help? Did it make you sleepy?

 

My understanding is that Benadryl just makes you mildly drowsy. My husband has taken them as an antihistamine without any side effects, but I know it can have them. I've heard of it making people dizzy and a bit delirious.

If it does turn out to make your drowsy obviously it may help muffle the anxiety for a short while, but is obviously no sort of treatment. Are you doing any other treatments alongside? I too am trying to conceive but was never given Benadryl, they just chucked the hard stuff at me

 

She's going to try and get me in to see a therapist, but it's the VA, so we'll see how well that goes. They're most likely used to seeing nobody but guys with PTSD coming back from the desert. We'll see if they can be any help to me.

 

Well, I remember taking Nyquil whenever I had a cold--and that shit always tripped me out even more than pot did =/
So no, I don't like those kinds of meds.
