The Stooges are without a doubt one of my favorite bands particularly The Asheton brothers who warped the minds of many with their raw, gritty, Detroit sound that originated being confined by factories in their native home of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Though there has always been curiosity in me in wondering why no one ever considered them as a psychedelic rock group. So I want to hear all of your opinions on what you think on this debate. In my opinion their first album can be easily considered a psych-album without a doubt in my mind, and "Dirt" off Fun House is like being lost in a trance of forever lasting euphoria. R.I.P. Ron Asheton
while i wouldn't say the stooges did full time psych they can be quite trancey and trippy. i was gonna mention Dirt before i saw you did. i love that song i've sort of considered the stooges as kind of the missing link between psychedelic bands and straight up garage as well. in short i completely agree
Well if your thinking along the lines of the Raw Power era Stooges with Ron on bass most def, but after that switch we never even saw the slightest hint of it thanks to Williamson besides the little stuff Ron through in but other than that I agree to extent of mostly Fun House rather than their debut. Plus Iggy Pops a horrible Morrison wannabe
i guess i could see fun house as somewhat psychedelic. i think that was kind of the era where iggy started using more drugs. thier self titled only seems psychedelic in its extensive use of the wah pedal. but that influence is kind of minimal.
1970,s a big transitional year for music, I think that "Dirt" is a perfect example of heroin fueled psychedelia Detroit style.
My op is that all the MC rock bands of that period including the Stooges were touched by psychedelia...of the "punkier" kind of course. That's the main reason why I DO NOT DIG Iggy solo these days...he's so COMMERCIAL!!....Iggy if yer looking on (highly improbable!), pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeze get back on the psych track will ya man (
