I just finished a pretty average book about outlaw motorcycle gangs and now im looking for a good read. What would you guys recommend? If you read books that is
1984-george orwell Alas, Babylon-pat frank Farenheit 451-ray bradburry Brave New World-aldous huxely The Giver -lois lowrey those are a few of my favorites.
Fact: George Orwell wrote a book about my town "The Road to Wigan Pier" The pier in which the book is based on is a 3ftx3ft jetty and it is hilarious when tourists (mainly American) ask what is there to do on the pier. The look on their faces when you tell them what the pier is, is priceless. But there's a nice pub by the "pier" called the Orwell where they can have a meal and curse George for making them trek to Wigan for nothing. Anywho I recommend "We" By Yevgeny Zamyatin. It's a good read for anyone interested in the new world order stuff.
They should have called it the moon under water. Do androids dream of electric sheep is an excellent book, and the sort you can read in an evening.
The Futurological Congress: from the memoirs of Ijon Tichy - Stanislaw Lem It's a lot better than it sounds, honest.
thats nearly the exact same list i would have posted, but i would add some kurt vonnegut (player piano, slaughterhouse-five) and some chuck palahniuk (choke, survivor, snuff) o and try some hunter s. thompson too, if you like motorcycle gang stuff
If you want a GREAT read that is long.. The Brothers Karamazov. If you want an uber entertaining yet semi-poetic read that goes by quickly The Road by Cormac McCarthy. If you want a hilarious douchebag book that will suck you in and rot your mind for an entire afternoon Pulp by Charles Bukowski. Just please, whatever you do.. don't rot your mind with any pseudo-philosophy, sophistry conservative apologetics contained within the ever so boring and aggravating writings of Ayn Rand. :cheers2:
have you read Rant? it's fucking great. I hope no one ever does it the injustice of making a movie about it though, it just wouldn't work. today I will recommend Life of Pi by Yann Martel, it's a magical tale.
Oh dear. "Rant" Gets A Movie Option! I was contacted this week by a film industry friend and producer who has just optioned the rights to the movie version of 'Rant'. He kindly asked me to keep this nondescript for now, but I can say that 'Rant' is officially optioned now and is in the early stages of development. We'll keep you informed as they progress onward. http://chuckpalahniuk.net/news/rant-gets-movie-option
lol first comment: it already flows like a documentary so they may take that approach but deep down, i think it would make a good musical.
