So I just had my hair 'maintenanced' for the first time and the lady at the salon did the "loop the dread through the root" technique(or 'flipping' I've seen it called too), and she was able to loop each dread 2 or 3 times. So at home now I've been looking at a bunch of reviews of this technique and everyone's like "don't do it!", not all sites, but a lot! I guess looping through more than once is the best, but I'm all freaking out now and feeling kind of hmmmff... Has anyone had this done before?
Just leave them alone and separate them. I'm sure nothing is wrong.. just stay away from wax. I've been bored on occasion and 'flipped' a few of mine, looping through the roots and they locked up quite well.. the main thing to do with dreads is forget that you have them (although I know this is not always easy to do when they are new and you are excited). cheers
I root flipped a couple of mine once or twice. At first they looked like a ballbag. But now 5 months later they looks pretty tasty
good advice. you will probably notice a small change in texture where the flip is, once your locks grow out. your locks probably wont fall off though, just dont do it anymore.
chill Winstan! I'd say the more you can chill with em and just let them be the longer you're likely to have them. The more you try to force the process along or salon them into perfection the more likely I think you're going to be to just cut em off in the near future for one reason or another.
I should of just had her seperate them... but whatever! They'll grow out and be awesome. Lalala not gonna think about it anymore!
i've seen people rootflip.. and with some people it looked better after some time, but not with the people who did it very tight. it looked horrible i think. i once had a woman with me (which i would help maintaining her dreads) and she said she always rootflipped. and when i was pulling on her dreads they moved like a harmonica and got 5 cm longer :S I also know people who did it once and still have kinks in their locks.. so i would say flip them back..
i did it once or twice like a year and a half ago. No harm done you wont notice the difference if you just leave them alone
