I rode a train once from New Orleans to Memphis, in 05 less than a month after Katrina. Not once did anyone ask me about my bag, wanna look at any of my stuff, just said where to put the cargo and make sure it was strapped it so it didn't get knocked to the ground while in motion. It was a nice ride, I'd do it again.

    Where are you from/to?

The last time I rode Amtrak, there was no bag check whatsoever. You could check the Amtrak website just in case?
