I think it's kind of nifty as well. The reason people aren't reacting like they did when War of the Worlds was broadcast is either because no one has seriously believed anything since then (which is kind of sad) or they believe it and just aren't terribly surprised (even sadder).

 

Or just because the commercials they've released don't come off as being very serious.
People had no trouble believing all the Healthcare or Swine Flu hype. (Which, I find to be quite sad =P)

 

I should have said 'anything in that vein'. Killer-viruses and brown-skinned terrorists are an entirely different story!

I think if anything, we were less desensitized by the War of the Worlds - and more desensitized by the gusy with the cardboard signs =P

I think the idea is for them to be used like a lightning rod, but you very rarely see a model with a ground wire =P
