I absolutely love Leon Russell! In my book, he is the most underated artist out there! I don't understand why. He rocked clubs all over Tulsa Oklahoma at 14 and hit the road with Jerry Lee Lewis at the same age. Became a session musician who worked with very huge artists such as: Eric Clapton, B.B. King, George Harrison, Edgar Winter, Johnny Winter, and so many more! It's also thanks to him that Joe Cocker became so famous. He wrote ''Delta Lady'' which become a big hit of Joe Cocker's. He also arranged the Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour for Cocker, and performed with him throughout that whole tour. He was also at the concert for Bangledesh! He's a true legend and deserves more attrention in the spot light!
Iv'e seen him live a few times and I have some of his albums I really like him --where in the hell is he now?
He is on tour right now. He also just released a new album called: The Best Of Hank Wilson, it's a compilation songs from his country side, the album includes three new tracks. You never hear about him so it's really hard to see whats going on with him. I just check out his website: www.leonrussellrecords.com to keep updated on him.
Not only is LR one of the most underrated artists out there, but he's also one of the finest musicians too........AND he has the most AMAZING collection of tophats in rock!! By blackglove at 2009-09-04
Nice choice! My favorite album of his is first solo album. There of course, is some great work on that album. My favorite song on that album is ''Hummingbird.''
I've been to five of his concerts and every time I went I made so much noise and screamed so loud we'd always make eye contact. I remember him always asking the crowd, "can anyone spare a joint" and ten thousand people would scream, "yeah" and the first 5-10 rows would throw him a few. He'd get up from the piano and fill his top hat full to the brim of joints. Oh man those were the days, 1969-1975.
My G F just made me notice that there is a resemblance between Leon and Rick Wakeman.......she's damn right...they look alike
Yeah she is! If you take away the beard, they are practically identical! They have another thing in common also...they are both badass on the piano!
