Hey, I'm a recently out FTM, and I was wondering about some of the laws on age and HRT.

I have checked a lot of sites, and exhausted the use of Google. I can't seem to find the answer to how old you have to be to start HRT. (With or without parental consent.)

I'm 17, and I am seeing a psychologist who specializes in LGBTQ things, and she said the next step for me would be hormones, though she's not 100% sure of the age you have to be. I live in a western suburb of Chicago, so I contacted Howard Brown Health Center and set up an appointment with a doctor there.

Basically, I'm wondering how old you have to be to start hormones in Illinois, and whether or not you need parental consent. And, if you do need parental consent... would it be from both parents, or would consent from one parent suffice?

    Thanks in advance! :D

I'm pretty sure it's 16 (with parents consent) and 18 to do it free will. I'm sure this was the age for the UK anyway.

Really you should be able to do it now with parents consent. If they're not cool with it, they might just toss your butt out of the house, man :(

Good luck, let us know what happens.
