Hey everyone! I just recently finished a project where I died hemp blue and green. I used regular clothing dye, which was recommended to me by a few people on here. The only problem was that it took FOREVER to do...like to soak and then like a week to dry. Then after it was finished the color looked great, but the moisture really made the hemp poof out. I've tried dying while its still fully on the roll and by taking off just the amount that i needed, but both seem to come out not as great as desired. I know I can buy precolored dye but not in the really thick gage i wanted...or at least i dont' think. Besides that, I really didn't want to pay extra and I like doing things myself. Am I doing something wrong? Do you guys have any suggestions?

This post was a while back, so I don;t know if the OP will even see my reply.

I've used clothing dye to dye hemp string and also semi-permanent hair color (Manic Panic, for example). The hair dye works incredibly well. I leave the hemp in the dye overnight, then hang it to dry after I rinse it with water. I'm confused as to why yours takes so long to dry?? Mine has always dried within 2 hours.
