i want to ask to see what history lays in the goddess mythos , do u feel she is always around ? speak as u will
I don't worship anyone, but I am guided by many Goddesses. Epona and Diana are my primary ones, but others call to me at other times.
Tsurugi_Oni, it's exactly these kinds of comments that cause people to not post here. Sometimes it helps to show a little bit of respect.
Oh he didn't make the worst kind of comment, every now and then 'outsiders' to a topic/forum will make their way in, so long as their intent isn't terrible it shouldn't be of concern. Back on topic, I'd have to say Aphrodite but if i'm going for less common reasons, then I'd say Demeter. Out of your list, i guess Hera, only because I like Greek culture and religion and I don't know any of the others save Gaia. But personally, I don't worship any before God.
I'm glad it doesn't bother you, but it does me. All people and belief systems deserve respect. Making a joke about other people is rude. It my not be the worst kind, but it's bad enough.
I agree about not worshiping any god. I don't think they ever intended us to do so.. Deity worship was created by man to control the masses. Gods and Goddesses just want to help guide us. You might know others, but just not know their common names. Or they are known to you by another name. So many of them are the same Goddess with lots of different names.
I understand what you mean about respect, but I think when it comes to religion people should always take it with a pinch of salt and try and understand the persons intent, even ignorance, i dont think is cause for offense, probably more for a chuckle. I believe in God and Christ and at the same time, i can still laugh at a joke about the subject or even appreciate extreme critisim against both God and the religion itself because I understand the backlash. But people have always believed different things and for a long while now, we havent been able to appreciate/understand others beliefs, and so tolerence is something we all have to work to and sometimes give a little to the "other side" if the intent isn't harmful.
I just refer to her as the goddess I dont worship i just trust that she is there and hearing me and guiding me where i need to go in life i see her as more of a friend that i trust with my life
Sorry if I offended anyone. Let me rephrase. "Givin the logic dominated focus which rules the modern world, how do enigmas such as yourself exist that worship these ancient female deities / thoughtforms. Do you worship? Or are they just religious symbolic thoughtforms of otherwise " secular" concepts? Do you talk to them? Is your life guided differently because you believe in them? "
Despite Neitzches conclusion that "God is dead" religion and faith are still very strong today in this "modern world with a logic focus". And it is worth keeping in mind that all religions are older then this modern world even Islam, having said that, some are incredibly old such as Hinduism. So rather then be the reserve for Paganism, your criticism can be applied to almost all religion and faith. P.S. Who are you qouting btw?
Im not quoting anyone, just translating that offensive statement that I made earlier. And no I don't believe religion is "dead". I also don't hold it just in reserve for Paganism. It applies to ALL religions. Ancient Hindu mystical meditative experiences are exactly like those found in many Buddhist and Christian mystical accounts. But the frameworks which we build around these experiences is what separates these religions. So I ask. What does "X Goddess" mean within your framework of religion? Does She represent a specific part of our divine nature? Or do you understand Her as merely an ancient symbolic representation of "natural" phenomenon? Or is she an actual independent conscious being which responds to you? If I asked a modern person "Which Greek god do you follow?" you would HAVE to wonder how the Greek gods figure into their life framework. Same deal.
Well thats exactly my point, rather than ask "why follow these old ladies?" why not just ask "why follow any religion/spirtuality?"? Thats true but they just might factor in, having said that, in a paganism forum, you have to assume there is a good chance the people posting have factored in these pagan religious/spiritual concepts.
Why do you ask? Are you attempting to learn something, or just start an argument? Sorry, but based on your past posts, I can't help but wonder if it's the latter.
I know this is off topic at the point of where this thread is, but i totally forgot to mention Athena in my reply to the OP, she's awesome.
haven't many people said that they don't worship? why do you keep using this term? my goddess=mother earth my god=the sun simple as could be both have been scientifically proven to give life but paganisn can be interpreted many different ways thats why you will find that beliefs and gods/goddess' very depending on who you talk to and what paganism means to them
