    * Matthew 8:21: Another man, one of the disciples, said to him, "Lord, let me go and bury my father first." But Jesus said, "Follow me,and leave the dead to bury their dead."
    * Matthew 10:34-36: "Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth: it is not peace I have come to bring, but a sword. For I have come to set son against father, daughter against mother, daughter-in-law against mother-in-law; a person's enemies will be the members of his own household."
    * Matthew 12:46-50: He was still speaking to the crowds when suddenly his mother and his brothers were standing outside and were anxious to have a word with him. But to the man who told him this Jesus replied, "Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?" And stretching out his hand towards his disciples he said, "Here are my mother and my brothers Anyone who does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother."
    * Matthew 19:29: "And everyone who has left houses, brothers, sisters, father, mother, children or land for the sake of my name will receive a hundred times as much, and also inherit eternal life."

But then Jesus rebuts himself in Matthew 15:5-7: "But you say, 'If anyone says to his father or mother: Anything I might have used to help you is dedicated to God, he is rid of his duty to father or mother.' In this way you have made God's word ineffective by means of your tradition. Hypocrites!" There's no telling whether Jesus was himself a hypocrite, or whether different people were putting words in his mouth. Everything claimed about Jesus is uncertain.

While I dont normally attempt to defend the Bible because I do believe that there are plenty of inconsistencies, I will provide an answer for this one because I don't believe it is a problem. Originally he says give and you will receive...and such is true. In the second set of verses, he was hassled by Pharisees (lawyers) about his apostles' behavior. He responded in kind with a not so veiled attack upon their behavior wherein he told them that they were needling the people to give more...so that they could skim more of the temple profits. This was in a way related to his anger displayed at the money changers.:)

Yah, if Jesus existed, I'm pretty sure he may have been bipolar or something. Overall, a very confused man.

Jesus was referring to the spiritually dead, I would think the disciples family was non-religious or something..
