Do you live in this reality? You can dance around all day and pretend like no one can fuck with you but this is a large corporation probably using a massive law firm. It's possible that they really don't follow up on these. It might be so common that they send them out and see who pays it. On the other hand, there might be a reason Wal-Mart is paying big $$$ for this law firm. I'd say calling to negotiate isn't a great option. You don't know if Wal-Mart has given the law firm the authority to accept smaller settlements at their discretion. If the letter didn't come to you certified mail (requiring a signature) then they cannot prove you received it. They will then have to file against you (civil suit) and serve you properly with certified mail. If Alabama law only allows them to sue you for up to $500 then you can settle it in a civil court and probably get it back down to $250. Calling to negotiate only opens you up as a target. If you ignore this it could also go to a collection agency. THIS IS VERY BAD FOR YOUR CREDIT. Now that lending practices have changed, you need impeccable credit to get a decent loan. Do what you want but remember that you are fighting against one of the biggest wallets in the world. Choose your battles wisely.
louisiana- not alabama. and of course i dont care, orison. i just dont wanna get hassled about this and end up having to pay a dickton more. my credits already bullshit anyway
If the law allows you to be liable (in a civil court) up to $500 then that's as bad as it will get. The BS responses in here are just a bunch of spam. KevinH and I are the only ones who have contributed anything worthwhile and so far you have three options. 1. Ignore it. Hope that they don't follow up on it. Best case scenario: $0. Worst case scenario: $500. 2. Call to negotiate. Best case scenario: Law firm can work with you and you save $100 or so. Worst case scenario: They have no control over the settlement claim and now know that you have received the letter. 3. Pay it. Best case scenario: You don't hurt your credit anymore. Worst case scenario: You're out $225 that you might not have had to pay. Taking into account that your credit is already bad and you don't seem to care about that, I'd consider option one. Wal-Mart probably deals with thousands of these every year and the fact that they are using a firm outside of your state might make it a bit more difficult for them to pursue because IIRC they have to file the suit in your state. If they follow up on this and you just want to get it over with tell them you didn't receive any kind of notification and would be glad to pay $225 to settle this issue.
to answer your question I have an semi-extensive career in law enforcement ,, and I own my house so I dont give a fuck about some asshole saying my credit is going to be ruined. In case you havent noticed Im not a pretend hippie like others. I really do believe youre the one not in reality.. The kid probable dont have any credit to begin with, so what do you care. I take that you work for a telemarketer or something did you attach this post to your resume' and say look at all the helpful advice I gave. :toetap05: seriously if you pay with CASH why give a rats ass about credit. Case you havent noticed also the credit industry is fucking all you in the ass. Obviously you seem to enjoy paying twice as much for something than its actually worth.. This thread should be closed, cause this is not even a legal/ lawyers forum. and if you cant afford to buy something dont go stealing it and complain when you get caught.. GET A JOB !!
Not every LEO as you put it cares about POT smokers .. The whole reason I wouldn't ever become a full time police officer,, In a society that dictates what intoxicants a person can possess and consume.. My Doctor gives me Oxycontin to stay in business.. The system is providing me pretty damn near close to heroin .. Tobacco has no medical value and its sold and guarded like its GOLD? DUI death for this year alone 9083 as of 2:34am today.. http://cognac.com/2670-drunk-driving-deaths-so-far-in-2009/ and I also dont believe that every stupid fat ass donuts eating motherfucker should be carrying a stun gun, So I have my own beefs within the law enforcement community.. If I ever get my Justice degree Id aim for IAD Internal Affair Department, or a Security Director.. Having to create laws to make money and stay in business, Jaw walking is illegal also. Not only does it create a traffic hazard, it puts other and yourself in danger. Imagine now the jaywalker and a car swerving to avoid crashes into another car. Maybe fatalities.. How is this Law not enforced.. If you choose to jaywalk is that your right? so many more consequences can become of it. Yet cannabis marijuana is illegal? Oh and the doobie smoker knows its dangerous to cross, cause hes high and would like to get across the street safely so they use the crosswalk.. Further our research to jay walking and smoking a doobie in the same location.. Who is going to get arrested and detained first? The doobie smoker or the jaywalker? I just couldn't work and enforce laws and ideas I dont believe in,, though I do believe in loss prevention .lol most my essays were on loss prevention.. last but not least, Id be more worried about Tiversa.. than /I would leo's ..
You should definitely look into the lawyer thing..but damn only $250? I got a $475 one from Nordstrom..fucking ridiculous too because it wasn't even over ten bucks of stuff.
Too drunk to fully coprehend but I think i get it. We're straight :cheers2:. To all the kdis in this thread that keep talking bout stealing: STOP FUCIKING STEALING! You think your sticking it to the man by stealing from large coprorations but that doesn't make you a better person. So, Micha how are you going to deal with thsi?
