just curious where some of you dreadies work and what you use to cover them up at work. just thinking of gettin them and am wondering how hard it will be to get a job so please share you stories.
Im a preschool teacher. Its not hard to get a job with dreads if you keep them clean and are a qualified candidate with a good attitude!
I'm not working right now, but when I did, I just wore a bandana or a tam.. but they didn't really care if I didn't cover it up either.. which is surprising because I worked in an office where we had to dress "professionally". I'd say that it has a lot to do with your overall work ethic, attitude, and individuality.. but of course sometimes rules are rules. I hope you find a job where they appreciate what you can offer rather than judging you on your appearance.
I'm a children's entertainer (yoyos and the science behind them), so I never have to cover up my dreads. I think it actually adds to my stage presence. My 2nd job is as a laser cutting machine operator and they never had a problem there. Although I'm carefully to keep them up and away from the moving parts. I guess it all depends on the type of job your after and how you make your 1st impression to the employer, also if its a job you already have then ask your employer, the worst they can do is say no. then you either find another job or work out a way to change their mind on the subject.
no job right now, i've worked in offices, hardware store, construction, food service and a carnival with dreadlocks. never had issues getting a job with them. most places that have issues will just tell you to wear a hat or keep them tied back. believe it or not the carnival was where i got the most shit for them.
When I had dreads I worked at Mcdonalds... Sad to say. That place sucks. The environment sucks and they don't like real dreads. (this one guy had twisted hair that he called dreads)
im a contract welder,, i wear a bandana and a welding shield, still have fires occasionally, but for the most part, not a problem
+1 I worked in a pub last summer, when I was considering getting my dreads. I asked my boss what he thought of them, and he didn't even know what they were!! So, no problems. I wouldn't want to work for anybody who didn't approve of my dreads anyway ^^
I work at CVS and they don't seem to mind anything there but if your worried pull them back in a sloppy ponytail. I find that as long as they don't touch my customers then the customers and the staff really don't care.
I clean shit, mostly private hospitals. They let me clean the isolation suit, which is sorta like deaths highly infectious waiting room, and don't give a fuck about my dreads.
I fucking wish Nah just clean, it's not absolute shitkicker cleaning because there's blood and needles and shit involved, but it's not a very glamorous job.
I sometimes borrow a few steripacked ones for assorted purposes, I've got some 0.4mm microlances I've intended to tattoo myself with for a while now.
