Has anyone heard of this I don't know a ton about but haven't researched much myself. I was curious how everyone else feels about this. It's pretty ridiculous in my opinion! So feel free to reflect on this topic I am enthused to see what others have to say about this!!
Yeah. It's real. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Pacific_Garbage_Patch Also there was recent journey across the pacific on a sailboat where they took samples of water along the way. Pretty much every sample they took contained some garbage or plastic. Our planet is F'd. Sad.
yes its reall, and its huuuge. its a bit ridiculous that theres not much attention drawn to it from the news and such. we're slowly killing our earth, and no one seems to care
All companies that sell products realized that it's easier to sell the box (the packaging, the image, the promise) than the product. Therefor every product now has to be packaged. Even packaging itself is a business. So many things are manufactured that we don't even need yet we buy because the marketing tells us we need it. This results in garbage upon garbage. Not surprised we have so much garbage in the ocean. Maybe we don't need a bag and a box for every product...
i'm horrified by this pacific garbage patch. i couldn't believe it until i saw it on various sites/youtube awhile back. my friend suggested putting that miracle grow grass type stuff on it and make it like a floating continent. i know this was all in good humor, but the question is what can we do to make this terror history?
There are actually 2 of them floating around the ocean, both bigger than my homestate of Texas and plastic is the main ingredient. Plastic... what a ridiculous idea!!! Wish it was never invented. I did a clean up the other day at a local river and it was absolutely horrendous how much plastic was floating around and collected in certain areas. Disgusting, to say the least. There has been a lot of research recently about plastics in the ocean and some scientists believe that while it takes 700 years for plastic to decompose in landfills, it takes about ONE year to do so in the ocean... so the ocean is becoming filled with crazy chemicals which eventually ends up on land, in animals, and of course in humans. What a crazy world we live in.
I dont see why the navy cant drag some nets through all that shit a few times a year. They are always out there any way, give them somthing to do.INa couple of years they could probably get a good handle on it.
Yep, the good old garbage patch. People are throwing away plastic shit all the time...it's got to go somewhere. I see no upcoming plans to change anything. It seems beyond taboo to even discuss it -- it's just not going to happen and we're all going to die in a sea of plastic.
